Needed a way to roll my new subframe around but only had fourth gen wheels and the backspacing was all wrong. Solution...

2" spacers from ebay for $50.

Success

Built a cart to wheel it around

Good luck with your build. It's nice that there are so many usable parts for these first gen f-body cars.

Good luck with the build. You can always scan mine for ideas. Tsnow and Futureuser also have real good Camaro threads. It looks like you are pretty close to me. It said South Jersey on the one picture.

Removed the passenger side header - front bolt snapped. Started the driver side and the rear bolt snapped so I gave up for now and soaked the rest some more. Got my cherry picker assembled along with a new motor stand and removed all the bellhousing to block bolts. Tranny doesn't seem to want to come off though. Going to have to see what's making it bind.

Got the driverside header removed with no more broken bolts, so I've got 2 I need to now remove. Picked up some left handed drill bits so hopefully they'll come out fairly easy. Worse case I'll have my welder friend come over and weld a nut to what's left (it's flush to the head) and hopefully it will come right out.

Thanks. I've read through all of those threads multiple times before I pulled the trigger on my motor/tranny. I'm in South Jersey - Medford. Where are you located? I'm at Cars and Coffee most Saturday mornings and probably will be all summer with my existing 327. I'm going to collect all the parts and clean up the motor so when it starts to get cold I can swap it all out and get the LS in there.

Finally got the bellhousing off. Stupid dowel pins were not letting go. Tip for next time: Slide hammer.

Try putting the stuff in your toss pile on Craig's List or Ebay. You will be surprised how many are looking for that stuff. I had a guy who worked with a dealer that bought most of mine. They like to put the car back to stock at the dealers before they sell. I am 5 minutes over the Commodore Barry bridge. Medford, you are right over the Walt Whitman. I hope to have mine on the road by the September Wildwood show. Do you go down for that? We also have a big show July 12 in Media, PA if you want to come over the bridge.

I'll probably do that with some of the things that people may want, but stuff like the egr tube and valve will probably end up in my trashcan.

I haven't been to Wildwood in a long time, but I'll look into the show. Same with the one in Media. If I go it will be with my car as it sits now. I'm trying to enjoy the car this summer before I tear into it and actually get the swap done.

Ah yes the cleaning stage. I hear you on keeping the car whole until you are ready. I did the same thing. Believe it or not the EGR stuff was one of the first things I sold. Everyone rips them off and the dealers need to put them back on.

Ordered parts to convert to an LS6 style pcv (valley cover, grommet, etc), new steam vent kit, starter with 2 long bolts instead of the small and long combo, alternator and a bunch wire brushes and cleanup stuff.

not much to add...got a bunch of parts this week. LS6 PCV setup, new knock sensors, alternator, starter, got the engine mostly cleaned up as well.

I'll probably try and finish cleaning it up this weekend and then get it painted (going for Chevy Orange on the block but leaving the heads aluminum alone and will likely paint the intake manifold and the accessory brackets an gunmetal color)

I am interested in seeing this come along. The car is gorgeous. I am sure this swap will be too.

back to getting this crap done....had a major setback in that when I pulled the motor apart it turns out the guy sold me a junk motor that had water in it and rusted together one of the cylinders, the valves had obviously hit the pistons, pushrods were bent, etc. After dealing with PayPal and amex it looks like I'm finally going to get my money back and this crap will be picked up in a week.

This is NOT what a supposedly excellent condition motor looks like inside:
