Default Wanting to turbo and lsx swap my 71 firebird, could use some ideas!

Well I have decided to turbo my car as well as LS swap it this upcoming winter. I am not a welder by any means so I was curious if any company's out there make any turbo kits for ls swapped 2nd gen f bombs. I've searched with no luck. Basicly just asking in here to gather any info I can to help make things go smoother down the road when I start this project.
Thanks!

Still undecided if it would be better to go with single or twin turbos as well.

You may want to query the Forced Induction forum here.

Well I looked through there and didn't see much for cars other than 4th gens so that's why I posted here.

Gotcha. I had looked for a bolt on kit for my first gen and didn't find anything either, so you are likely going to have to go custom. From the stuff I have seen here and in FI, it's pretty straight forward, just going to take time and $$$.

Do you have a small welder? You can buy a bunch of universal bends, tack it all together and bring it somewhere to have it finish welded.

Theres ample room for all different types of turbo placement. I'm trying to plan out the hotside for my 71. I wont be turboing it this year, but I can take pics and draw up some blueprints of the hotside if that'll help.

In reality I think designing the hotside is the easiest thing about building a street driven turbo setup.

I do not have a welder, thinking about buying one now though. I really want to keep a/c in the car so I think that will be my biggest issue.

I had talked about one of the rear mount turbo guys. It's an option, but probably more involved, but does pretty much leave the engine bay alone.

Looking in my engine bay it looks like the turbo is best placed on the passenger side towards the front.

Just going to be hard for me to get the hot side to the turbo then the down pipe back with an a/c compressor there. I'm going to have to get creative!

My cousin has a 88mm on his 79 lsx swapped Camaro. It is mounted in the trunk lol, literally in the trunk. His charge piping is ran through the car along the passenger side tunnel then through the firewall. Makes good power but not the look im going after lol

Nice! Those rear kits run the piping under the car, but they did take about putting the air cleaner/s in the trunk. Could be interesting.

His is no kit, but regardless, I will not cut up my cars body or give up trunk space to accommodate a turbo.

I don't blame you, that's why I didn't consider going with the rear-mount setup.

Unfortunately if you want to keep A/C your either going to have to drop off your car at a shop and drop stacks of $$$ to get it done or buy a cheap-o welder and some bends and try to snake it around the compressor, tack it all together yourself and have a professional tig it up real nice for you. No other options really. If you dont mind lots of trial and error, doing it yourself you end up with a welder which is always a good thing to have haha

yes,

bring me the car and I'll fab up a turbo system for you or if you are interested in these pieces let me know, parting out a TT vette

I have the following if interested

4.8 LS with manley rods, wiseco pistons, stock crank head and main studs

80 lb injectors, manifolds, twin t60 turbos, LS1 intake, custom oil pan, braided lines LPE tuned ECM with wiring harness

or a full boogie haltech s2000 with egts, meth controller, 127 fic injectors, ect...

also a nice 480LE trans (needs to be built) and stock convertor with the associated ECM and wiring

I would go twins as they are really nice on the street and with all the room under the hood it would be easy to do

plumb some intake tubing and filter box to let the factory ram air hood off a 70 bird feed the turbo

flavor with some nice pro touring suspension and a nice 12 bolt rear (bolts right in from a 70 bird) and you have quite the ride!!

nothing better looking than the "early birds" 70-73

I've hot rodded quite a few TA's previously (used BB chevies) but the LS TT is what really is nice

my current ride is a TTiX TT Z06 with a build RPM 4l60E swapped in.

very fun ride.

PM me if interested in any of this stuff. life is getting in the way so my projects are on hold for now.
