You can remove the transfer case and swap the tailshaft and tail housing on the awd trans, but it's no easy task and not worth it to me. You would be better off selling off the awd drive train and picking up a 2wd transmission. The harness could be modified to work or you can buy a stand alone harness for engine and trans.

You will def need to purchase a standalone harness. If you still have the harness and computer from the engine you are swapping in then you can send them off to Speartech and get your harness reworked for a cheaper price than a new harness.

you dont need to purchase a standalone harness and that harness doesnt care if its 2wd or awd or 4wd or 6 wd.

If you are swapping an engine from trailblazer SS LS2/4L60 or whatever into a 1992 Tahoe you will DEFINITELY have to alter your wiring thus purchasing a stand a lone harness... Evidently I don't get what your ultimate goal is here but several people change their transmissions from 4wd to 2wd when doing a swap. It's not uncommon

The transfercase in a tbss is fully mechanical. The harness is the same as the 2wd. Just converted my ss to 2wd in January.

Deleted my previous post to avoid confusion. 2008 TBSS LS2's have the 58x reluctor and use the E67 ECM. I'm not aware of any electrical connection to the transfer case and according to Striker289, there is none. There could be a difference in the ECM flash (operating system) between the 2wd and AWD - I really don't know. But anyone who has experience flashing the E67 can look through the stock OS database files and determine whether the flash is the same for 2wd and AWD.

Regardless, it's definitely doable to take a 2008 LS2 from an AWD vehicle and get it running properly 2wd.
