cooling a boosted ls1
well im having cooling problems with my boosted ls1 in my s13 have limited room for a radiator 24 wide and max of 14in tall would rather have 12ish in tall i bought a cheap rad off ebay it was a Scirocco style but it seems like the coolant doesnt stay in the rad long enough to cool it off anything over 2k rpms wile driving it wants to go above 215 but if i keep it at 1800 it will sit at 210 so i was looking at these 2 rads just cant decide or if any one has some other input
i also have 2 9in fans that are 2300 cfm each

It's prob your fans . What kind are they? I went through the same thing . I ended up buying a derale h o set up . 2 13 in fans 4000 cfm total . I don't think you can get 2300 cfm out of a 9 in fan they are prob 2300 total . Not enough. I would invest in some good fans first. The rad is prob fine

on the dyno also had one of there 5 foot tall fans on it and then one of the smaller blower typs blowing directly into the intercooler and right through the radiator when the car is warm if u shut it off pour a lil water on the radiator turn the car back on it will drop from 240 to 200 in about 10-20 seconds

Before you go replacing parts, how about some basics?
Is the radiator full?
Have you bled all the air out?
Is the radiator filler neck higher than the coolant crossover tube between the heads?
Is there a thermostat and how many degrees is it?

It could be that the radiator is just too small, in which case no matter how big the fans are, you aren't going to fix this. Any chance of getting a bigger radiator in there?

Post a pic of your set up if you can . Is inter cooler right in front of radiator? Ac condenser?trans cooler? Also you can put a 160 thermostat.

Well I seen another guy running that Arco rad I posted he said it cooled his sufficiently with only 1 fan on it I think single 12
I could fit a bigger radiator I would have to delete my headlight flip ups since I dont use them anyways but I'd also have to lower the radiator down I think my 2nd post was a 26x16 radiator I think I can make it fit
the fans I have should be good enough?
And swapping to a 160 thermostat isn't that more of just a bandaid letting it start cooling a lil sooner? It should still overheat if its going to right?

On an ls Motor a 190 thermostat won't open until the water coming from the rad is 190. I put a 160 in mine and now it runs 180 on hyway 190-195 with Ac on in traffic .ls motors are opposite sb chevy ,the thermostat is on the inlet side. How are u running heater hoses? Therm also needs coolant flow at heater hose location to open properly u can loop them or have a 4 way mixer valve. The other thing I noticed is the plastic bag on the intercooler.

on another note i also went for a drive tonight its 20 degrees cooler then it has been when i was overheating but i put a single 12 on the front to push air through my radiator along with my 2 9s on the back and just driving it sat at like 205 after a boost pull maybe came up 3-4 degrees and went right down drove another 5 miles did a longer boost pull from 2-4th and still only came up to 212 cooled back down to 208 shortly after then i held it at 3k for a min on the highway doing like 50 and it only came up to 210 were before at 2200 it would be up past 220 verry fast so did the aditional fan just help that much or is it just because its 20 degrees colder out?

My car when I shut heat off , it would overheat. After putting in a 4 way mixer valve , it was fine. U can block them off, but I think you need to drill a hole inside or something to insure flow to thermostat.

but I have been thinking of adding a surge tank and running the heater lines to it would make it allot easyer to fill my system
