1997 Camaro A4/LT1 to LS1/T56 conversion
I figure I would get some information before diving head first into this project. I'm familiar with swaps but this one will be a little different since I am not swapping complete shells like I have in the past. I have a 2002 Trans Am donor car with 39k miles to work with. My car is originally a 93 v6 car that was swapped over to a 97 lt1 with the whole interior, wiring, dash, etc.
I read that converting a 97 to ls1 with a 99-02 is easier than other year lt1s. I believe that I'll need a lt1 t56 crossmember for the trans to mount up. I'm comfortable wiring once I know what needs to be done, but I haven't really seen a definitive answer on what wiring has to be done. I'll definitely document what I do so it can be referenced in the future.
Any input? Thanks.

You will need to get a pin out for a 97 Fbodyand 99-02 Fbody. Some wires will stay in the same spot and some wires will need to be repinned. And some will need to be extended. Also you will need to add a C210 connector since the Ls1 harness does not have that. All the interior wires are C210,C220, and C230. Exterior wiring wise the Lt1 only has C100 while the Ls1 harness has C100,C101, and C105. You will be extending wires from C101 and C105 to isnide of the car. You don't need any of the 5v reference wires. I just went through a similar swap except my 93 was a original Lt1/A4 and I went Lq4/T56. I have everything wired up and working great even including the clutch anticipatory and cruise control.

Sounds like you're already familiar with this info, but here it is just in case...

and http://www.shbox.com/ of course is a great LT info site.
I'm currently doing a 95 swap. Originally a 3.4/AT car swapped to LT1/AT and now a LQ4. So i'm learning as I go as well.

I'm about 15mins from Cecil County Dragway.
Spent plenty of time there over the years and was leaning that way with this car, but my son has been AXing his 2nd gen the last couple years and got me interested in that now. Might be changing up a few things on mine.
Sierravmax looks to be right on with the info he's provided so far.
Where'd you find a donor with only 39,000 miles???

Whats your plan for the car....is it going to be a DD, street/strip, mostly strip, weekend cruiser, AXer?
I think I'd only go tubular for the weight savings if its a weekend or mostly strip car. But for durability on the street or AX course, I'd stick with a factory K. You're probably already saving more weight with the LS swap.
