Default Chevy Luv Swap Alternator Issues

Good Afternoon guys,

Been driving my 4.8l swapped luv for weeks now with the volts sitting at about 12 putting it on the charger every couple days. The truck does not have alot of accessories so it doesn't draw much but at night the headlights flicker and i need to get this figured out. It would also sometime bounce my voltage gauge to around 13 volts then back to battery voltage. I was using a multi meter of the main post to see reading and the alternator was only putting out 5 or 6 volts so i took it off and went and had it tested. It came back bad in multiple categories, went out to the junkyard and got another one today put it in and same result the back post hooked straight to battery reads battery voltage and then when unhooked only does about 1 to 3 volts. The factory 2 wire truck plug is plugged in and still hooks to pcm. Is there something wrong with my truck or are both these alts bad?

Does the alternator have a 4 pin plug with 2 wires connected?

This all seems odd. The alternator should put out about 14 volts without any connections to it. Are you sure it's good?
