Default 1972 Chevelle LSA/4L80E Swap!

My 1995 LT1 has been in my 72 Chevelle long enough. Now is a time for a BIG upgrade. This is my build thread for my swap. In the early stages this far. Just collecting parts and pieces to complete the swap. Follow along. Any questions and/or comments are welcome!

Out with the old.......

That's a good looking car, are you going to retain the stock A/C evaporator housing with your swap?

Starting the tear down. Motor will be out this upcoming weekend, then it's time to start fitting it in! To be continued!

Going to paint the front frame clip, firewall, a-arms, replace all front end bushings and linkage along with a JGC steering gear.

I don't believe the use of the DD sliders with the stock frame stands are going to be compatible with your low-mount A/C compressor. If you get into an issue with that, Hooker has some new A-body LS engine mounting brackets coming out that are based on the use of 4th-gen F-body engine mounts and provide room for using a low mount A/C compressor.

I was worried about that. Hopefully find out real soon what issues may arrive. I'll have to take a look at Holley's offering.
This is the accessory Drive Im using (shown w/out AC)

If you get hung up with a clearance issue somewhere, send me PM and I'll let you know if any of the new Hooker A-body swap components I'm working on will be of any benefit to your project. I'll be following your progress to see how things go for you. That car is going to be a blast, that's for sure.

Old Lt1 is out! Now the real work begins! Gonna start test fitting the Lsa and 4L80e to see if everything will fit as we hope. Need to start sanding the frame and firewall to get ready for paint, start replacing front end bushings and linkages. If any sponsor wants to hook me up with anything, feel free! Lol. Def a fun and spendy project. More to come!

At full turn, the tierod greasers hit the pan. New style rods of the greasers on the back that'll fix this.

That boss on the oil pan is very close to the frame. Gonna cut that off to give me more clearance.

I can't imagine the stock style compressor will fit low.

I used a new Kwik bracket for a Sanden mini-compressor on my LSA in a 72 Camaro. Still had to notch the cross member as well as move the mount back.

Cool project!

Ya this compressor business is my next fear. I don't know what my other option would be. Def not gonna be notching anything with my frame or anything. I'd run w/out AC before that. Maybe holleys adapters plates will be out soon. Next is have to hope they would fit w my Stainless Works Headers.

Are you using stock location swap plates to mount your engine? If so, I can confirm that you will not be able to install a low-mount compressor with them. Both sets of the Hooker A-body engine brackets will, with the forward position brackets obviously providing the most room. You will also most likely have interference issues between your engine and the evaporator case using stock position mounts...the forward position Hooker brackets remedy that as well.

I'm using dirty dingo slider mounts. Location is TBD on those. They allow for 2" of rear adjustment. When will those Holley mounts be available? Work w my SW headers? And yes, still going to use the stock evap case.
