I need some help on a 5.3 into my cosworth. I am going to use a LM4 out of a 2002 trailblazer and want to keep my 4 spd, can I use a monza bellhousing? If so what starter do I need? My car uses brace from the rear end to the tranny to locate the upper mounts for the rear so I need to mount the tranny in the same location, not sure on which oil pan to use. Also which drive accessories mount would be best (no ac, no power steering, just alt)? Any other help would be appreciated.

I am sure a moderator will move this post to the conversions and hybrids section for you but in the meantime poke around on there its an extremely active section where about any question you have has likely already been answered and if not someone will have the answer for you pretty quickly , try searching cosworth , Monza ,vega ,etc... but didn't those come with Saginaw 4 speeds ? if so I am thinking any LS is going to spit that out pretty quickly as back in the day they were tender behind even an emmisions small block , if it has a t10 or Muncie in it then it should take some abuse.

This is none of my business, but I'm gonna say this anyway.

Cosworth Vega's were pretty rare and unique, even in their day, and so much more so now.

If you have a "for real" Cosworth Vega, I might suggest that it might make more sense to go after a project like this with a more garden variety Vega, vs a collectors item.

Given its rarity and collectors status, maybe it would make more sense to sell your Cosworth and used the money to purchase one that is already built out?

I modified a Lakewood scatter shield for a cable clutch in a factory v8 Monza I dropped a 400 sbc in back in the day, Used the same scatter shield later in a vega with a 427 BBC afterwards...After all this time I dimly remember having to drill a hole in the housing to accomodate the cable passing through...

The 14" 168 tooth flywheel isn't going to fly.

Monza cable bellhousing fits a 153 tooth 12.75 flywheel.

I believe McLeod has a 153 tooth LS flywheel option, but I have no detail.

Finding parts to "fix" a cosworth, is impossible. If you watch roadkill, they show a complete cosworth sitting in a junkyard, and pass on it for this very reason.

OP, I agree, and it's not like your really destroying a COPO vega.

Me too...I've got a 4-speed, 396, cowl induction hood, fully loaded 1970 SS Chevelle going under the "LS" knife next year...

(Nothing like a Superbird...but you get the idea)

At the end of the day a cosworth restored is a 7K car with 110hp. Even though its the #12 car, its not a collector. Does anybody have any info on the trailblazer motor?Its still a std 5.3 right? Will the throttle body off the truck intake fit on a F body intake?
