Tactical mistake with trans on volvo 240 swap
Oh boy. I think I screwed up. I'm fairly mechanical but I'm not a technician. I am swapping a 5.3 from a 2004 envoy xl into a 1990 Volvo 240. The trans from the envoy was out and I ended up with a second 2004 4l60 envoy trans from a 4.2 truck that had recently been rebuilt. As a result I sold the trans from the v8 donor car. I'm now getting the rest of my ducks in a row and I think that the bell housing holes on the trans from the 4.2 are not going to line up. I think I can just swap on a 5.3 bell housing but since I don't know what I don't know I am worried about this and other issues like with the electronics. What am I missing?

The bells housing for the I-6 and the 5.3L are definitely different, but you should be able to swap to a V8 bellhousing. Another option might be to see if a junk yard in your area will swap the transmissions for you.

The 4.2 I6 is called an Atlas engine, also shared with the I5 and I4 (less cylinders) in the previous generation Chevy Colorado.
