Default ls2 going into a 98 firebird!

I want to swap an ls2 into my 98 firebird. Its an a4 with the y87 package..

what all am i going to need?

I know about the fuel rail so far. I'm not sure if it will line up with my tranny.

I will need motor mounts and a new k member right?

not to mention a pcm but i dont know where to get that.

Is that all? I know my car being a 98 will goof stuff up a lil.

Maybe i should go with an ls1, im having MASSIVE trouble finding any aftermarket parts to build up this ls2... :\

Do you guys know any places that have ls2 parts... Do you guys think there will ever be much of an ls2 aftermarket?

A lot of the ls1 parts work on the ls2. The new motor is very similar to the ls1.

there will be lots of ls2 aftermarket.

but honestly, what are your goals for the swap? most cost effective method woudl be to find a 98 wrecked car, and buy that, and swap the ls1 parts.

buying a new LS2 crate motor right now, would cost more than a wrecked 98 f-car and budget rebuild of the motor.

What is a y87 package, is it a 6 cyl? Anyway KJ at Scoogin Dickey is selling LS2 402 forged shortblocks for $3995. It comes with everything you need to bolt up with your LS1 heads, cam, intake. He gives you LS2 front cover, seal, valey cover, timing set, cam sensor. All you have to do is extend your wiring for the cam sensor and everything else bolts right up with your 98 LS1 stuff. Check out the thread in the LS2-LS7 section.
I`m thinking about replacing my 382 allbore LS6 with the 402 LS2 setup, looks like a great deal and a strong engine.

Not bad.. Though, I'd like to know how does that ls2 cam sensor work together with a '98 PCM.

yah, the aftermarket is to weak now.. i'm looking at putting the 402 ls1 stroker from tbyrne in it now.. bolting everything up.. money isnt an issue i have a 10k max right now but i get another 15 k in a year and a half. I really dont want to wait. I'm thinking get a pcm and wireing harness off ebay, k member, motor mounts, and a 6speed tranny all off of ebay. The stroker, hooker headers and 90mm intake and tb from tbyrne. Have comp cams design me a cam and get rockers from them also. I wanna get the fully ported heads from slp. I think thats mostly it, i will need some random stuff i guess, also gotta get a timing thingy from somewhere.

All in all will my engine even start without getting it tuned?

Lastly, ive just jumped into the v8 world and have no joke been reading car **** for the last 35 hours... excluding 4 hours of sleep, sorry if this post lacks fluency and grammer.

by the way nice engine in that site... nothing ive found has been that complete for that good a price.. Still dunno where im going for this thing. The aftermarket does suck currently for the ls2 you cant lie, besides that i dont wanna mess with this thing later, i want my engine to be in the 500-600 hp range for now, as in i want a fast car i dont have to **** with for the next 6 years. When college is over i know i will get a new engine and turbo that.. its allways been my dream to have a 1000hp car, dunno if it will ever come true though...

IM DONE IM GOIN TO BED!!!!

if you have that much money to buy a ls2 engine... why dont you just go ahead and sell your six and buy a ls1 car?!? would be easier and most likely cheaper by the time it gets all the way done

One problem is that you can't get sh*t for these cars. I have a '98 Y87 Camaro that I'm looking into an LS1 swap myself. I'd say the thread starter's best bet is to do a swap. '98 is kind of the bastard year, so if you want to save yourself a lot of wiring problems get a '98 LS1 motor. You'll also need a transmission for it since yours won't bolt up, K-member and front coil springs, LS1 steering rack and motor mounts, and guage cluster. Also an LS1 radiator with hoses and a fuel upgrade. If you go with a T-56 you'll have to swap out the pedal and linkage assembly, T-56 crossmember and get a manual console. I was looking into this but seems like too much of a PITA, also money is a factor for me.

Good luck, I myself and doing a lot of research for this.

It will be way easier (and cost effective) to just buy a car equiped with an LS1 from the factory

No, i love my car to much

It just needs 2 go a lil faster.

I also have to much money and time on my hands.

I think it really will be cheaper to do the swap anyway...
20-25k for a DECENT ls1 car around here... (under 30k miles)
my car will sell for 8 MAX.

Therfore i dont want to start down 15k.

you love your car to much, that is why you are puttin a different motor in it?!? the v8 and v6 body are the same thing?!? and $20-25K.... what the hell are you smokin lol. you really need to look bud, there is a 99 ws6 ta on ebay right now and the reserve is set at $12K. sell yours for $6000 at the least and if you already have money then there you go.
