Yeah, it can be done. With no modifications done to it. It would be a lot easier just to sell your car and go buy a car with an ls1 already in it. I would really do my homework on a project like this before going through the hassle of doing the swap. You can't plan for the unexpected man. That's all I can tell you. But if you wanna do it, good luck.

The biggest expense will be the engine, trans, pcm, harness combo. Depends on what you can get this for.
After that you need springs/shocks, fuel lines/tank, k-member, cross member, steering rack, exhaust, lid/bellows, radiator, v8 heater hard-lines. And gauge cluster.
And labor, if you don't do it yourself. Some places will do the swap for $1000 labor.

The v8 is a returnless system. The v6 has a return line to the tank.
If you want to keep the return style tank and lines, you'll need a 97 vette fuel rail with fpr.
If you want to go with the returnless setup, you'll need an LS1 tank and lines setup.

We bought a wrecked 2000 TA and put it into my 95 v-6 Firebird. We did for about 2500. But we also got the harness with it. Had to replace the stuff busted in the wreck but it was alot better than buying one and paying for it. we also changed over the whole inside. The steering wheel with volume controll, seats, inc. The doors the hatch. It took about 4 days. The worst is putting the harness in. Too many damn wires.

The BIGGEST difficulty I see people getting themselves into is when they swap an LS1 into an LT1 body and rewire the entire car.
The entire car is wired up for the car, not the engine/transmission...
Only parts of the actuall car wiring is related to the drivetrain.. If you switch Auto/Manual trannies, then you may need to add wires..
Another difference is a few EVAP wires..
However, the LS1 engine wiring harness can be adapted very easily to work with the existing vehicle harness...
I often see people get themselves stuck when they try to change all the wires in the car.. It is a HUGE undertaking if you do that..
If you just rewire the PCM harness of the LS1 for your vehicle, you could get the swap done in 1 day's time.
