i know about renegade hybrids... it doesn't give any insight on the 944 parts being able to handle 400+ hp.

The 951 trans is similar to the Audi model 016 trans used on the 5000 and 5000 turbo. The difference is that the 951 version of the 016 trans has heat treated input shaft gears, larger pinion shaft bearings, a taller R&P, and ratio's better suited to a V8 than that of the Audi trans. The case differs in that there is no provision for a clutch and TO bearing. The Audi version is commonly used by the GT40 replica builders who claim to put 400HP through them in a lighter car). I wouldn't count on doing regular burn-outs or banging gears, but should do fine if you're kind to it. FWIW.

Just replace the cooling coil on the transmission with a proper cooler radiator, plenty of large hp 951's around. If you have drag racing in mind then you may be changing out transmissions, if not then you'll be fine. I'd love to do a 944 turbo LSx conversion, awesome car with all the power to use the chassis.

Hello From my understand it won't hold up I went with the 915 and had renegade hybrids modify it to work with the LS1. You can now see it on my web page. www.jtm311.com

915 transmission in a 944? Got your 9xx's mixed up I think...

Other option is to run the 6 spd from a 968

Sorry I should have explained it better I looked at using the 944 trans with the LS1 alot of people told be it would not hold up, so I went with the 915 out of a 911.

Is it possible to fit a 930 Transaxle in a 1986 944 n/a? I mean, I know ANYTHING is possible, but how much modding are we talking here? I can understand a little bit of modding (custom mounts, custom fittings, etc.) I'd like to avoid the hassle of having to cut a 944 in half and re-engineering the whole back end of the car.

I'm trying to get a 500hp/500tq 944, and trying to get there efficiently. I don't plan drag racing it or doing regular burn outs. The figures are a goal of mine, and I know they have been achieved before. Just how I don't know, so any and all help is accepted. I plan on stroking an LS1 to get the numbers. I just need a solution to applying that much power to the wheels safely/efficiently/effectively without worries of hurting the tranny. If I have 500hp/500tq, I want to be able to utilize that from time to time and not be worried about my rear falling out. I love the advice so far, just need a few more things cleared up. THANKS!

How hard is it to swap in the 968 trans and how expensive are they?

I've been interested in the swap too.
