LS1 gas mileage
If I swap out my stock 5.3 in my 99 shorty Silverado for a new LS1, will I
be able to get better gas mileage? I currently get 19mpg with the 5.3,
and in my 99 coupe, I can get 28mpg with the LS1. Has anyone done this?
Did your mpg increase or is that only reserved for Corvettes?
Or would I better off staying with a 5.3, polished/ported heads, racing cam
long tube headers and a wheezer?
Thanks in advance

gas mileage will increase with offroad longtube headers. Catalytics, especially factory ones, are restrictive and cause a little worse fuel economy. I seriously doubt you pick up any fuel mpg by swapping a 5.7L into your truck. You would pick up more by swapping a T56 6-speed into it. The main reason for the poor fuel economy is the inefficient 4L60e, the brick shaped truck in the wind, and the heavier axle to turn, along with more vehicle weight.
