The best swap for an LS1
I really like the looks of the new Impala and Monte Carlo SS. They are looks-only cars with weak V6s and front drive. An LS1 and rear drive would really improve them ...
Maybe for my next project ...

Re: The best swap for an LS1
If you look in Hot Rod magazine a couple months ago, there is a picture of a "new" Monte Carlo and a "new" Impala SS. Both are still FWD with LS1 engines in them. They were built at GM by a Advance Vehicle Group. They run great, I have driven them both, and are a lot of fun to drive.

Re: The best swap for an LS1
I remember the article, and I read it with interest.
From what I understand their was some interest within GM to market an LS1-powered Impala SS. I'm not sure why it was killed ... I probably would have bought one.
Anyway, I went out and bought the next best thing: a 2001 Z28. And it comes with a manual transmission and rear drive. Though my kids complain about not having their own window now ...

Re: The best swap for an LS1
I guess I must be alone in thinking that the new Impala and Monte Carlo are each breaking new grounds in the realm of automotive ugliness...
I really liked the previous Impala SS and the LT1 Camaros. The C5 is one of the best looking cars ever. But for me, pretty much the entire 2001-2 lineup from GM ([i]excluding{/I] the trucks but definately including the bloated Avalanche and Cadillac SUV) are stinkers.
I actually think that that last Aurora is the best looking 4 door produced by GM. Too bad it doesn't look like the cancellation of Olds has hurt their resale though.

At least we agree on that! And I agree with you on C5s as well
I don't know why, but the new Impala and Monte Carlo catch my eye every time I see one. I guess GM must have used people like for their focus groups !
