Want to put an LS1 in a '99 V6 Camaro.
obviously something like this is going to cost quite a bit. I know that it would be cheaper to buy a Camaro w/ an LS1 in it, but I would like to keep the car that I have and just turn it into one badass car. But I found this guy who wants to sell an engine out of a 2000 Corvette, only has 1,000 miles on it. I was wondering how much it would cost to have it professionally installed in my car, and what kind of things would I need to change in order to this?

Professional install? That's one of those "If you have to ask" type of questions. As to what has to be done, for openers, you'll need to get a transmission as the one from the Vette will not be usable (it's a transaxle) and I doubt the V6's trans will work (I'd say it definately won't work, but anything is possible ).
Also, the ECU - an FBody LS1 unit would make things so much easier. So then you're gonna need the wiring harness to go with that. But then also the fuel system in the Vette is different. And the list goes on.
What was that about just buying a Camaro with an LS1 already in it? Depreciation would work to your advantage here. I'm guessing that by the time you get the motor in and working, you'll have pretty much been able to buy a 2000 LS1 Camaro. With a warranty. And you'd have it right now, as opposed to 6 months from now. And no glitches (well, fewer glitches ). What will your "hybrid" Camaro/LS1 be worth when it's done? Probably less than what it's worth right now with the factory V6. Seriously.

Yeap, you said it right the first time. Buy a LS1 Camaro. Trust me... Once upon a day I thought I had this bright idea to take my 97 V6 5 speed and "turn it into one badass car". Not a good idea bro. I could go on and on but I leave it at this: That 97 got traded in for a 96 Z-28. Never regreted once since. (except the black, I miss the silver)

get one with a V-8 already in it. apart from re-enineering the entire drive train, you're looking at upgrading your entire suspension as well. major headache.

Have to agree with the others here.
With the LS1 conversions I'm doing, I'm not worried about interfacing with the BCM, or retaining emissions controls, or using a serial data run instrument cluster, or VATS etc etc...
Hybrids/conversions are usually major headaches, and you'll run into the same issues that the OEM has faced with stuffing the LS1 in that engine compartment, except you won't have the mounts/parts/wiring to deal with it like the vehicle that already has the V8 in it..
