I have a 2002 LS1 in my Cobra (www.creffieldcobra.co.uk). On startup, the oil pressure rises quickly to about 40psi. Once the engine warms up a bit, this drops down to around 35psi (at idle). I haven't driven the car on the road yet so was wondering what oil pressure I should expect at high revs. I revved it up to about 3,500rpm and the oil pressure rose to around 60psi. My gauge goes up to 100psi.

What is the maximum oil pressure I can expect, and what will happen to my engine if the pressure gets too high?

I'm using a mechanical Smith's gauge taking a bleed off a fitting near the oil filter

Mine sits at about 55 lbs at 2k rpms. Around 40-45 at idle. Hope someone answeres your question, I'd be interested in knowing the typical max is.

Your numbers sound about right. I don't think I have seen my guage go over 80psi. Unfortunately it is in storage for the winter so I can't recheck it for you anytime soon.

there is a spring loaded bypass valve built into the oil pump... pressure will reach a max around 58-65 psi, and stay there.....
