Great info! I really appreciate then mention of the ATS stuff in your thread. As a quick side note regarding the firewall bracket posted on S&P's website:
Those demensions are incorrect. I know this because I own the original GM blueprint that they tried to reverse engineer, but they got it off by a more than a few measurements. I've had to sell quite a few people our correct firewall plate to people who purchased the S&P bracket. Just a little heads up.

seeing as the engine is moved back from the stock SBC position, you'll also need a custom Xmember, as the stocker won't move back far enough, and is too high. The auto trans is 31 1/4" long, the T56 is 31.9" long.

Few things not adressed,
-Shortening of driveshaft or replacement
-Gauges to work with electric signals
-Cutting a hole for the shifter (no big deal but not there)
-Cutting a hole in your firewall to mount the computer or somewhere in the engine compartment
-Modification of the clutch pedal if its a t56, either welding on a tab for stock masters or drilling a hole for the ats one.
-Fabbing up some sort of intake ducting and air filter assembly
And on a side note to the ats pan the pan itself was 499, however it requires the use of an external oil filter, the lines and fittings, plus the housing and filter itself set me back another $200, completely worth it imo but just something you should be aware of before hand.
Also unless you do the brp rack you will still need a notched pan or ats pan with conventional rack setup

Ah, forgot about those things.. And i thought i'd clarify about the whole notching pan thing... With the steering arms in the conventional Rear-Steer setup, with either a box/drag link/idler arm, OR a rack, (whether it be a custom setup from a 4th gen, etc, or the Flaming River type setup, you WILL need the pan notched, however with the BRP rack setup, which move the rack to the front of the frame, along with different steering knuckles/spindles, you WON'T need to notch the pan.
good points.

I just found this on http://www.hpsalvage.com/specs.htm
"
Transmission Dimensions 4L60E/700R4 Picture
32 1/2" long 22 1/2" Bellhousing flange to Trans mount
4L60E does not have a kickdown cable
13 Wire connector on right side of Trans
Transmission Dimensions BW T56 Picture
32 1/2" long 25 1/2" Bellhousing flange to Trans mount
Wiring hookups include backup lights, VSS, CAGS, and
Reverse Lockout (none of the wiring hookups are necessary
for proper transmission operation)
Shifter is located on the Tailshaft 29" back from front of
bellhousing flange
"
From what i'm getting there, i guess a T56 trans Xmember would work, but it'd need to be moved forward quite a bit. (3 inches)
here's some diagrams i pulled up.
"C" is 25.6"
and the 4L60...
I could not find the depth of the trans mount, but that should help some..
Anyone with a 700r4/4L60E in a firstgen with S&P syle mounts, Please speak up...

here is a picture of my notched oil pan. Why is this thread not sticky yet? its great, and 67-69 Camaro is the most popular conversion? isnt it?
I had to make a small dent in the exhaust manifolds to fit the steering box.

more pics of my Camaro during LS1/t56 install with explanations under each picture, feel free to add comments to my pictures.

67RS,
Are the F body acc a necessity? I am looking at a 2000 Vette LS1 for my 67, and would like to keep the Vette acc due to alt being in about the stock location. I know the oil pan will need changed.
Also, I am putting a 74 Nova subframe under the car. Anyone see any problems using the newer clamshell engine mounts?
Thanks
Virgil

The vette accessory drive WILL fit. (with exception of the a/c compressor and oil pan) I passed up on a 'vette motor originally because i thought that the alternator would hit the uppper control arms, but there's no way that would happen. I also didn't want to buy another pan. no idea on the second question.

I figure the motor mounts won't be a problem, as the clamshells will bolt were the older rubber mounts would on the adapters, and instead of frame stands, the mounts go directly to the frame.
Will let everyone know the further I get into the project.

Thanks for the info Olly. I saved some of the pics to reference for my own swap. I'll make this a sticky if we can organize it into categories like: "motor mounting solutions", "fuel system options", "wiring harness"...etc. I always have liked how jrp makes his writeups: https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139142
I'll have some info to add also as time permits. Part numbers and sources are nice, (and LS1tech sponsors that carry the conversion parts) Not sure if I'd like to sticky the ebay ad link, as there are sponsors that pay to advertise here that offer the same parts for not much more. ATS, Trans-Dapt, Hooker Headers Kit, and S+P all have similiar mounting solutions, and probably all have the same basic dimensions. ATS has the nicest setup of all the ones I've seen though. There are 4 header manufacturers that I know of also: ATS (custom), Hooker, S+P, + Stainless Works (need rack steering).
Do you have a source for the pre-sumped fuel tank? The C5 fuel filter/regulator was what I was originally going to do, but I've decided to take the Aeromotive fuel system approach myself, so I'll find some part numbers for their kits for those that like to spend money. Also for wiring harnesses, Painless makes about 4 different LS1 harnesses now. And FAST makes their own stand alone setup, although its expensive and more suited to racing it wouldn't hurt to list it. I could get some current part numbers and MSRP on those components.

Ok, got it more organized. JRP's idea of a walkthrough is great, and not limited by characters at much. Should I start a new thread splitting them up, or is that OK?
I'd love to add sponsor part numbers, etc, if you have the info. Ebay sticky is gone, in favor of a shop link, also added a few more links/photos.
keep em coming..
