Default s10 ls1ers prt. 2

Let's please start the s10 ls1 questions and infomation in the thread.

here's the last picture I've taken of my ls2 oil pan. I don't want to be rude but I had 20 pm's about the ls2 pan and I have to tell everyone yes it does work yes it's above the crossmember yes you have to cut the crossmember end of discussion. In fact I haven't even posted pictures of my truck on here yet have I. Enjoy 2000 5.7l ls1 T56 7 5/8 3.73

Great looking job. I have my LS1 built and ready to swap. Can you answer a couple questions for me?
Did you have to modify the Trans Xmember for the t56?
Shorten the drive shaft?
Did you use the stock clutch master and splice the lines together?
Thanks for your help. I have everything figured out for my swap but the tranny.

Yes I used the s10 crossmember moved it back on the frame and drilled new holes for the mounts and trimmed some of the crossmember that got in the way of the rubber trans mount and drilled the hole out for the larger bolt. Now the driveshaft I thought would have been a problem but it fit just removed the colar on the driveshaft end so it wouldn't hit the transmission. Yes, I used the stock clutch and attached it to the transmission. Be very careful where you run the hydraulic line you must keep it as far from the exhuast as possible. It won't hurt to put dot4 in your clutch. Right now I'm flushing every few days to remove the old fluid(never changed in 6 years) and replace it with dot4 brake fluid. Before the flush I couldn't get into 5th racing it now I can run all the way to 6th plus I put a ton of heat resistance stuff on the line.

ok, so i called current performance today, the quote was $750 for a new harness, and i checked out speartech to have them modify my old harness was only $450 to make it work with the gauges as well, those are the only two companies i have looked into, any other suggestions?

I think Current will modify harnesses also and I am pretty sure it is less than $450. Of course it will work with your gauges just like any, but you will have to splice in all the wires for the gauge feeds.
Do you intend to have ABS and cruise working afterwards? Also, you will need to figure out what from the original harness you will have to keep like grounds and stuff if you go with just a modified engine harness.

carshopinc.com is selling custom brakets and accessories for ls1 swaps. They say that this kit will help with some clearence problems like the PS pump and gear box because the PS pump can be mounted in 2 different places... The package is $1350 and includes PS pump, Alternator(Custom), Compressor and billet aluminum brakets and pulleys(with bearings and bolts).

I wanted to know if anyone has any (mounted) front view pictures of all their brakets and accessories they used for gen2 S10 install and any other info you can give me... how much it cost them roughly and what they used to compare with these guys...

Also i wanted to mount Alt. and PS pump on 1 belt and AC compressor on another so if anyone has done this successfully with no clearence problems let me know..

Its seems like its a good deal and could help alot seeing as everything is more snug agaist the motor with smaller accessories. They just started creating them and u can find them on thier ebay store...

Default mounts

I used the universal mounts they (carshopinc) sell for my car and like them. I could position the motor where it fit the best as far as how high and how far back.

Default wiring harness

Did you find anything out on your harness yet. I'm thinking about doing mine myself. I have a brand new( <100 miles) harness, And I can't afford what they want to make a new harness to work in my 96 Blazer. Figure I'd give it a try. Just get the computer tuned. Spent all day today going over the schematics and labeling what was what and trying to figure out what to take out. I'm probably going to get a 05 Truck engine compartment fuse and relay center and just use what is neccessary. Found one at the scrap yard for 30 bucks. Gotta find out if the 96 guages will work with the 2005 5.3 sensors. Also gotta figure out the ABS stuff. Want to keep all the stuff working like normal. Wish I had a newer Blazer and only needed the one computer to keep everything.

speartech hasnt called back yet, and well speed scene = $$$$ to splice the two harnesses they want $65 an hour with a minimum of 10 hours so thats $650 and if you dont have the origional harness its a surcharge of....$850!!!!!!!!! thats a lil bit of a gouge imo, but i think i might go with speartech

I've got a harness from Current as well. Just finishing up installing it (along with the rest of the motor / trans / transfer case, etc.). Hoping to fire it for the first time this weekend.

I've had a pretty good experience so far. Harness from Jared is very nice, quality & attention to detail is very good. Only real complaint was a lack of information when the harness arrived. Little details like where the harness was intended to run. And why the oil pressure sender plug didn't plug into the sender (had to change to the S10 sender, which requires a custom M16x1.5 to 1/4"NPT adapter). And the range selector switch assembly (or whatever its called) on the side of the transmission has a different plug connector configuration (1 connector instead of 2, solution is to replace it with a slightly older switch assembly). Some of this stuff was known ahead of time (where to route the harness, having to swap senders), some was unforeseen (the trans range thingy wasn't supposed to change until '05, I've got an '04 with it, gotta love GM). Last item is that I will be running the MAF on the driver's side, and the harness assumes it'll be on the pass side. That isn't anybody's fault really, I failed to tell him where I thought it'd be, and he assumed it'd be on the pass side. Fix will be easy, just a military extender harness (butt splices with an extra chunk of wire in between).

Overall, though, it has been a pretty easy deal. And the only reason I mention the above stuff is to emphasize that communication is critical to getting good results. If I had provided more info (like the configuration of the trans range selector) it would have come in correctly and I wouldn't have to swap out the range selector (which is only like $30 so its not a big deal). Make a list of all the stuff you'll be using (exactly) with as much information as you can manage (plug configuration, number of pins, part numbers, whatever) to help ensure that things come out right.

I e-mailed Jared at Current Performance also. For the time saved compared to doing it yourself and quality job everybody says he does, it would be worth it for the price he quoted me. Unfortunately, its kinda long wait and I have a few weeks left till I go back to work, and a new 5.3 harness hanging over my engine hoist, soooo,DIY. Also, I like that feeling when I accomplish something on my own. I built my own house and have lived in it for 2 years now and it hasn't fallen down yet, (said with a big grin) So the next thing naturally was to build a car. Just looking to bypass some of the studying intently headaches by asking someone thats already done had the headaches. Anybody???
