Default sbc in a fox-body, please help

would anyone here be able to help me find info on this swap or at least point me in the right direction? i found tons of info on an ls1 in a fox-body but i think my situation would be a little different. i even checked out a mustang forum but hardly any of those guys helped, all they did was whine about brand loyalty . anyway i have a '86 mustang with the 3.8 V6 (throttle body injection) backed by and auto (c-4 or c-3, not sure??) i picked up a complete and supposedly just rebuilt chevy 350 which came out of a firebird ($450). not sure what year of 'bird, the motor is carbuerated and has emissions fitting so i'm guessing late 70's or early 80's. i plan on running a th-350 behind it and mating ford to chevy at the driveshaft by chopping off the ford yoke and welding on a chevy one. any and all help will be appreciated and if i'm in the wrong forum please let me know, thanks.

Chevy small block in a fox ?...

You will run into as much fabrication as an lsx swap but WO most of the benefits.

well i'm doing it cause the sbc was readily available and i wont have to mess around with a pcm, sensors, etc.. plus it seems like it would be cheaper... the car only cost me 350 and it's in really good shape.

If youre doing it to keep cost down, youd be better off with a ford motor. 302's arent that pricey and have decent potential.

You are looking at a bunch of fabrication here.

I'm sure you can get it done however but think in thru before you get into it.

I can promise you it wont be THAT cheap. Think custom k member, mounts, custom driveshaft, possibly custon headers etc....

I might end up costing as much as buying a nice built 302.

it's been done 100's of times, myself included with a differtent car than in my pic. call just about ANYplace that makes tubular k-members and they'll have one for a sbc in a fox. or, you can call up some place like skinny kid racecars and order a k' with no mounts and pre-fabbed front & mid plates if you plan on making real power.

bottom line, there's a ton of stuff out there, and if you visit the boards long enough & post a want ad, you can find headers & exhaust from somebody who is either selling the car as a roller or giving up on a project, or whatever.

or for a little more money, maybe not, you can do a carbed ls1 and just use an MSD ignition box to power the coil packs. take a look on Summits to see it. looks a lot better than the composite intakes anyways. the motor would weigh around 100lbs less than a sbc and stock with good exhaust, filter, and intake, you're already making 400fwhp+! then save a little for some mildly ported heads and a good cam & make 500+fwhp! good luck either way!

Anyone know where exactly I can find a fox-body K-Member w/ SBC mounts already installed? I haven't been able to find one just by searching google. Wouldn't it be easier to use one of those with ls1 swap plates than using a modified 4.6 or 5.0 K-member?

Yea, what he said, the coupe I was working on has the aje chevy swap k member, a-arms, and coil overs. Its a nice set-up. There is a bunch of stuff for this swap. There will be a ls1 with ported 98 heads and carb, good cam..etc.. in this car. But now my friend is selling it to another friend b/c he has other stuff on his plate.... :-(

mine has a PA Performance k' with sbc mounts. if you don't already know, the mounts are different between a sbc & an ls1 motor. no matter what you do, you'll have to modify some mounts to work with whatever k' you use.

It's okay I was curious if I could use a QA1 5.0 K and there might be a motor mount adapter. But I think I just have to redo my mounts totally.
