lighter, more rigid, and cheaper gets my vote. 245 front and 275 rear is a nice combo. even if you're only a little lighter, thats still less you need to take out to make things similar.

and the s14... never really did it for me

I currently own both and have owned many. The S14 is a little more comfortable and gets alot more attention because I have a 98. I like my S13s because they are cheap and lighter and people tend not to notice them.

I'd say S14, simply because of the chassis difference. The S13 chassis actually weighs more in the rear, and a light motor makes it worse.

The S14 has better weight ratios, and a wider stance. its a much better chassis for road holding.

As far as styling, I like the S14 better usually, but an S13 coupe or vert with the JDM front is a beautiful car.

Then theres price, which the S13 wins on, but I always said get what you really want even if you have to save a little longer.

The S13 also had the HUD option (heads up display), which was really cool.

Sadly most HUD are broken and no one fixes it after it's broken.

But like everyone says don't compare the s13 and s14 weight because it's so minute it really doesn't matter once you start modifying the car. Go for what makes you happy!

I say s13. Why? If you get an s13 and s14 side by side, the s13 is lighter, cheaper and a better sleeper. The s14 was a little more comfortable, little less sporty, but considering what you'll be doing with it, I don't think that's a major issue. Also, the s13 is a more popular chassis and parts are cheaper. really, it's a personal decision though. They both would be good. It just depends on which style you prefer and which one you can get a cleaner example of. I would say whichever is in better shape, should be the one you get.

And, the weight difference is negligble...we're only talking 100 lbs. or so.

If it's a project that you're not really going to care about and just throw together, grab an S13 because it is cheaper. If this is something you plan on being meticulous with and keeping for an extended period of time, I say go with whatever you feel looks best as neither has a real clear advantage over the other (both being so similar).
what is the diff. between a kouki and a zenki?
how do the s13 differ from the s14? are they diff. chassis?

no..that front is JDM
it's actually an s14 front end that can be custom converted onto the s13 chassis. it looks pretty good in my opinion, but only on the coups and 'verts. the hatches look better with the strawberry face (s15) to most people, but i prefer my regular old pop up headlights.

A zenki is a 95' - 96'. It has the more rounded headlights. A Kouki is a 97' - 98' with the more angled headlights. The vert you pictured is an S13 with the s14 kouki front.

The S13 and S14 chassis are similar, but have a lot of differences.

body, with some gold wheels and a fmic, i hear the turbo spool and bov,
he has never tried to race me, when im in my ss,
car looks clean as hell, with the wheels and also has one of those burnt
tip exhausts that look orange and blu.

I say go with the S14, I had a S13 and was ready to do a swap and ended up dumping it for a Z32. I feel the better factory brakes and 5-lug on he s14 make it worth the extra money. I also feel visually the S14 is alot better looking. As for the cost differece I just sold my gutted s13 with no engine or trans for $550. Right before I bought my 300zx I turned down a deal for a zenki s14 SE that was mint with complete interior and a blown headgasket for $950. So if you look around you can get a great deal on a S14. Anyway it would cost you the difference in those two cars just to upgrade the brakes and to 5-lug anyway.

The S14 is the better platform in my opinion. This is mostly from a body line perspective. Although with an S13 frontend, the '89 - '94 can also look much better. The Zenki is not as nice looking as the Kouki because of the headlights. We did an S15 conversion on the '95 and made it look much better, again IMHO. My '92 has a S13 conversion.

In the end, except for the stock Kouki frontend, the rest of them need some styling attention. The pop-up lights look fine when down, but they ruin the cars lines when up.

Usually, the S14 chassis is in better condition, but this isn't always true either. I agree with others that the S14 interior is more comfortable, however the stock seats basically suck and require replacement anyway.

It really does come down to personal preference in the end.

without getting into mind numbing detail (US vs japan differences)

zenki (95/96)

kouki 97/98 (i love whoring my car )

the main difference is the front end.
