Default vss sensor th 350

hi, i am putting a ls1 in a 1962 nova. I have a tci th 350 6 tailshaft. i need to use a vss sensor for the computers benifit. Ive seen the 4l60 tailshafts made to fit the 350 but i think they are for the 9 tailshafts. What are my options on getting a signal to my computer. any help will be appreciated.

Go to Jags that run and look at chapter 13 of their swap manual. It is all about the VSS sensors and is available to download for free. You will need a VSS that puts out a sine wave AC signal, the factory VSS for an LS1 is a 40 pulse per revolution, but the computer can be re-flashed (tuned) for a sender with a different # of pulses per revolution.

You can`t use the 700r4 VSS parts on a TH350 because the hole in the tailhousing of the TH350 is too small. I don`t remember hearing of people putting a 700r4 tailhousing on a TH350. They were swapping the older mechanical style 700r4 tailhousings onto 4l60e transes to run mechanical speedos.

You can because I did on my montecarlo. But I had a later model shortail 350 and it uses the big sender and the same diameter output shaft as the 700. The g-body's did use the small diameter sender but all of the fullsize trucks and caprices use the large sender. So all you have to do is intall the 700 parts. The early th350's do have the small sender but all of the later ones have the large sender and you can use a 700 reluctor and sender in them. I am a mechanic and have done this before on customers and my own vehicles. Chevy trucks from 78-86 had the short tail 350 with the large sender. All you do is heat the reluctor with a torch and the slide it over the output shaft. Long story short if you have a large round sender you can do all of the above. If you have the small sender then none of this applies and JTR has the parts you'll need to make it tick. Good luck.

(G-Body Thanks for the help on the alternator for my s-10 worked nicely.

Huh, never saw a TH350 with the large sender. Guess I`m going to have to take a detour to the truck section next time I`m at the junkyard. Learn something new every day .

That would also get you going and it would work on either large or small diameter to the best of my knowledge.

You can also get a real VSS that will mount to the speedo output here. http://www.magsensors.com/

i looked at the autometer senders and it is a 16 pulse per rev unit. how would that affect my driveability. If this is not be the best way i will order the 40 tooth reluctor ring from jags that run and drill and tap my transmission case for the sensor. thanks again for the info.
