Which T56?
I posted this over in the Manual tranmission section, but maybe I'll get more response here.
Yes this is my first post here but I hope you all can help.
I'm doing a 6.0/T56 swap in my 79 Z28. Ive got the motor but I need to find a tranny.
My question is there any years that are better than others or all they all the same? Does it have to come out of a 98-02 F body or will a Viper or Mustang unit work with a different bell? How about GTO or Caddy CTS?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I would imagine the output and input shafts are different on the Mustang and Viper transmissions? So they should all bolt up to a LS1 bellhousing or would they need an adaptor? What about shifter locations?
Anyone?

I am using a Viper T56 with my 99 LS1 in my Chevelle... the Input shaft has to be swapped over to the F-Body and the front adapter plate also needs to be swapped out.
If you don't swap out the Adapter plate, you can not bolt up the Slave. but the Bellhousing will still bolt up ok. You can modify the Slave by re-drilling the slave with the correct clocking of the bolt holes. But it would be better to swap the plate.
Shifter location are all different.. the Viper is forward of the F-Body and the GTO having a more rear mounted setup. The Viper and Mustang (02-04 Corbra) can share the shifters.

Take a look at D&D Performance, they build T-56's for almost any application. They have GM types with a Viper back half, the shifter is offset to the drivers side but the shifter is in the stock location on my '88.

I don't really know much about t56's, but would you say it's strong enough in stock form + clutch for ~580whp on motor, plus 200-300 on nitrous?
Also, I know this is a stupid question to some of you guys, but is the 93-97 still a 6-speed?
