1st gen crossmember question
ive searched alot (and maybe im just dumb) but cant find much info on 1st gen trans crossmembers. in olly's sticky he mentioned most guys are useing the th400 crossmember with a 2 inch spacer , but has anyone done this and have pics? i have a th400 crossmember and it doesn't seem to line up with the holes in my frame?
if someone else has used their 400 crossmember please let me know what you did. thanks.

I used a 400 crossmember, and just welded a mount on the other side of it, opposite of the original mount. This made it line up just right. My 68 came with a glide, and the 400 crossmember bolts right in. Are you sure that the crossmember you have is from a 1st gen? The other way you could maybe go, is to just drill new holes in the mounting flanges to line up with the car, or cut them off and weld on new flanges that will fit. Sorry I don't have any pics of my setup.

Leon, why don't you start a thread about your conversion, give us all the details and pics. It would help us to determine what is up with the crossmember. It sure looks like you motor is too far back....
and that does look like a TH400 crossmember.

Looks like a reasonably simple fix. Move the crossmember back so that the front hole on it lines up with the back hole on the frame. Weld a piece of flat iron on the mounting flange of the crossmember that extends it to the front hole on the frame. Then weld a new trans mount on the crossmember on the opposite side of the original one. Its been 3 years since I did my conversion, so I don't remember every detail, but after looking at your pics, I think that this is how I did mine too.
