We bought an aftermarket crossmember. Ours is the S&P, take a look at Rodders crossmember, that is a pretty nice looking unit.

I used a 400 crossmember, and just welded a mount on the other side of it, opposite of the original mount. This made it line up just right. My 68 came with a glide, and the 400 crossmember bolts right in. Are you sure that the crossmember you have is from a 1st gen? The other way you could maybe go, is to just drill new holes in the mounting flanges to line up with the car, or cut them off and weld on new flanges that will fit. Sorry I don't have any pics of my setup.

yeah im prety sure this is a 400 crossmember but check out the holes

this is a shot of it turned backwards and it wont get close enough for the holes to line up thats why i think my car might have come with a diff trans?

Leon, why don't you start a thread about your conversion, give us all the details and pics. It would help us to determine what is up with the crossmember. It sure looks like you motor is too far back....

and that does look like a TH400 crossmember.

Looks like a reasonably simple fix. Move the crossmember back so that the front hole on it lines up with the back hole on the frame. Weld a piece of flat iron on the mounting flange of the crossmember that extends it to the front hole on the frame. Then weld a new trans mount on the crossmember on the opposite side of the original one. Its been 3 years since I did my conversion, so I don't remember every detail, but after looking at your pics, I think that this is how I did mine too.
