Alt only on a 5.3
I want to temporarily run just an alternator on my 5.3 until I get the money up for the brackets I want. Is there anyone out there that is running just an alt on the truck brackets? pics would be great.
Thanks,
Eric

I have only seen someone do a LS1 F-Body Alternator only.. They just got a belt that was the correct size and just had the top passenger idler, water pump, crank and Alternator.. was not the greatest but it worked.
Crank > Idler > under water pump pulley > top of Alternator > bottom of Crank pulley.
Have not seen anyone post any setup like this. But I am looking at a picture of the truck setup. You could try and get shorter belt and run it this way, try with a string to see if it will route correctly. leaving the alternator as is, remove the AC and Power Steering pump (cut up mount if needed). just measure the string after and get belt that long.
Bottom of Crank > passenger side Idler > Top of Alternator > under Idler > top of Water pump > counter clock wise to the driver side of crank pulley and around to start again..?? Looking at the picture all of the pulley rotation would be in the correct direction and it doesn't appear that anything would get in the way.

hope it works.. post if it does.. !

I just got rid of my brackets because the p/s pulley hit the steering box and the alt hit the hood even with a 6" cowl!! It was out too wide. I also got rid of the tensioner. I was wondering if someone had made a bracket out of some flat bar or something similar to run the alt with the water pump and crank. This will only be temporary on mine since I will be getting s&p's relocation setup to put my ac up high. Any ideas

You can alway make the bracket out of flat bar, alum/steel plates or round stock. but you have a problem of the Water pump not being in the same rotation as the Crank. You would need to rid up a tensioner/idler aso so the belt can be looped around something to get the pump going in the right direction.. almost like a V with the alter on one side and a idler on the other side with the belt going under the pump pulley.
You can try making templates out of wood first, then transfer to metal.
If you going to get the S&P relacation setup. Why not just charge it on a credit car or have someone lend you the funds. Considering the time and money you might have to put into just making something temporary.

Got the material and stuff to make it and time would be while I'm at work... I just was wondering if someone else had already come up with a design for a bracket already.

Any update on this I need one too. I bought the carshop kit and didn't realize it only worked w/ a carb got a little too excited after looking everywhere for one with no luck.
The guy in the T bucket thread used an F body part but I am a little confused on how he did it.
Thanks,

This is incorrect our kit works with injected motors as well just not with DBW configurations.
