Default 5.3 in a 2wd 72 blazer (oil pan problems)

Alright, heres the problem afriend of mine an I are putting a 5.3 into a 72 blazer the blazer was 4x4, so we put a 2wd crossmember (channled 2 inches) in the truck and and air ride technologies strong arms on it.. The problem is the 5.3 oil pan is approx. 8 inches deep, and hits the ground when the truck is layed out. Also we have put a 5.7 LS1 in a 68 c-10 (with the same style crossmember) and doesn't have that problem because the LS1 oil pan in only approx. 6 inches deep..

So long story short will a LS1 5.7 oil pan work on a 5.3???
And if so what parts will be needed to make it work (ie sump, pick up tube)????

Thanks,

James

I had the same problem with my 2wd blazer. The ls1 pan will fit. I believe you have to use the pickup and possibly the tray I cant remeber. Post some pics if you have any.

Looks good. It is a good bit lower than mine. I just have bags with cut cups right now, so I have about 1 1/2"- 2" under my crossmember.

What you need to try is a F-body pan which is about 5 1/2" deep or a CT-V pan which is about 6 1/2" deep.

bczee,

The other truck my buddy has is a 1968 c-10 has a 2000 Ls1 out of a f-body, and it fits fine..

The problem is the truck pan on the 5.3 is about 2" lower than the crossmember..
He got the entire motor/harness & computer for a damn good price, so he went with the 5.3 or the truck would be gitting an 5.7 LS1.. And he stole my brand new 700r4 I was saving for another project..

Tomarrow I will try to find a f-body oil pan and pick up tube..

Thanx everyone for your help.....

The f-body pan will fit, but you will need the pan, pickup, windage tray, dipstick and dipstick tube.

You will also want to get a new o ring for the oil pickup tube (get one for a f-body, the truck one is different and won`t seal on a f-body pickup)

You can modify the truck windage tray to work with the f-body pan (cut the front of the tray off where it covers the front 2 cylinders and then cut a new hole for the pickup to bolt on as it bolts to a different maincap stud) but you are much better off just buying the f-body tray, you will spend a couple hours making the truck one fit and a new f-body one is only around $30

hey I am doing a 5.3 swap in a 73 2wd blazer, I was just wondering If you use the stock tranny crossmember, what did you do to mount the tranny? looks like you could just use a spacer, but how big?

Then blazer we are working on was a 4x4, so we are having to build a crossmember..
