Default LS1 5.3 into an '82 k10

I was wondering if you guys could help me out with my project. I have an '82 chevy k10 with a '69 327 from a camero. the engine is tired and i am replacing it with a 5.3 from a 2003 avalanche, drop out kit...all accessories wiring harness and ecm. I have a 700r4 in there right now, how do i go about the detent cable and do i need the computer reprogrammed so it wont try to recognize the 4l60e that was with the avalanche. Right now i am keeping this stock for budget reasons.

Also this has the electronic throttle body. They are sending me the throttle control module. Do I need the pedal Assembly also? Sorry for all of the questions.

Theres lots of people that know mor than me on this subject.
But heres my 2-cents....

I would say stay away from the drive by wire (electronic throttle).. Yes you will need to get the computer reprogrammed for you converter and gear ratio, and to take out vats (security).. You will need Ls1 motor mounts that will fit you blazer's frame, and I would go with a painless harness to save some sleepless nights..

Theres alot of guys on here that have a wealth of knowledge in convertions, so don't be ashamed to ask questions....

Good luck with you project, and post some pics......

The drive by wire isn't that bad but for ease of installation you might want to go with an old-school cable actuated one. There are a number of companies that make them, though I can't remember them off the top of my head. If you do decide that you want to retain the fly by wire you will need to get the pedal assembly although there may be some trick around it.
I'm pretty sure that you will also need to reprogram the ECM so it won't try to find the 4l60e.

The fly by wire is easy to work with. If you got all the parts for it, including the TAC module to mount to your firewall, the pedal and harness from pedal to TAC module, it's cake. Plus you don't need to purchase cruise module, cable, throtle body and throttle cable. The tac module to ecm harness is in the engine harness. Cruise control works off the PCM and TAC module. Not hard to work with at all. Save money and modify the harness you have unless you just want to clean it up more for looks. Good luck.

Hmm. The drive by wire and 700r4 complicate things. The 700r4 is not just a detent cable, it is a TV cable and if it does not have the correct geometry and amount of travel on the cable you will bur the trans up prematurely.

There is at least 1 company that makes an adapter to hook the TV cable to a cable TB(I think it was bow tie overdrives but don`t quote me on that), but I don`t know of anyone who hooked a TV cable to a FBW TB. You could make an adapter to connect the TV cable directly to the gas pedal and then keep the FBW TB.

You will need the PCM reprogrammed so that it will run (VATS has to be removed on the truck PCM`s, it can`t be bypassed with a box), and there will be extra codes to delete along with the trans info.

The FBW gas pedal will be required if you keep FBW, make sure to get the pedal from a truck. Ask for one for the same year truck as your TAC and PCM are from. I know that the car pedal and TAC box are different from the truck stuff and I believe that there were 2 variations of the truck TAC/pedal depending on the year.

Default thanks

this is great. i think i will try to keep the fbw. i am doing this on a tight budget, but do you feel it would be worth it to replace the 700r4 with the 4l60e? are there any benefits to that other than not messing with the tv cable??

thanks

The 4L60E would make the whole swap simpler. Especially if you are keeping the DBW. You would need a tranny crossmember, or modify your existing one. I'd do it that way personally

Swapping to the 4l60e will simplify things. To run a 700r4 you will have to
1. TV cable
2. Get a crankshaft spacer and elongate the holes in the flywheel or get a new torque convertor with a LS1 nose on it.
3. You will also have to edit the trans out of the PCM

you can reuse your tranny crossmember, you will just have to slide it forward a few inches.

I hope i can. the truck used to have a th-350 and i switched it to the 700r4. i had to modify that one. if i do the 4l60e i am wondering if i could use on of the manual transfer cases for the 4l60e instead of the electronic. just because the truck has a floor shifter. thanks for all the info. i think i may do the 4l60e that way it is done right from the start.

Default transfer case

My 4l60e finally came in. i was looking at everything and noticed that my front axle (passenger side) is on the opposite side than the new transfer case has (driver side). i figured i would just flip it and move the shifter 180deg and my pattern would just be reversed in the truck.
then i noticed the breather hose would be on the bottom.
has anyone else dealt with this problem??

Connection on the transfer case is probably for the VSS.

Contact Jim at Jims performance 1-410-465-9569 to rework your harness and reprogram your pcm he helped me a ton.
