Default alt. help

I bought the shitty painless harness for a 98 camaro and i can't get my alt. to charge. i Installed a 470 ohm 1/2 watt resistor in line to term. b and still am not charging. Is there anything else i can do to get a good charge? Any help appreciated

The easiest way to check it is to pull the alternator off and take it to one of the chain parts stores, as most of them will test it for free. If the alternator tests ok then it is the wiring. How exactly did you wire the resistor in? Did you use the painless harness at all or did you hook one end of the resistor to the alt and the other to a wire that is IGN + ( has + 12v when the ignition is in the run position).

i put the resistor on a switched 12 v source. There is no wire for the alt. from the harness.

Sounds like your wiring is OK, I would have the alternator tested.

Well if the alternator tested good it should be working.

Do you have a good ground connection between the alt and battery? Are you sure that you connected the wire to terminal B of the alt and not to terminal C?

not an eletrical genius, but is the resistor directional? Can it be installed backwards?
And as stated above check to make sure it is on the correct pin.

Resistors are not directional. Make sure it is 470 ohms. I once saw someone try to get this to work with a 470 kohm resistor - it won't. Measure it with an ohmeter if you can.
