Default HEI & Carbed LS Motor

I had the good luck of finding a 94 Firebird for 800.00 and I'm going to turn it into my Drag car so I don't have to wreck mine with a cage and all.

What I'm looking for is Links and Instructions on taking a LS1 or LS6 and making it a turn key motor with no computer, just a carb and a HEI.

Thanks

The GenIII V8 has no provisions for a distributor drive, so if you insist on running one it's not cheap. You'd probably be better served by getting the MSD box that controls the stock coil packs.

Do I still need a Computer to run the MSD box?

And how does the MSD box know when to fire the coils if I don't have a computer?

Is there any sites dedicated to this type of conversion?

cam position sensor and the crank sensor are what the MSD unit uses.

The msd controller is a stand alone unit for use with the carb conversion, You can purchase it in a complete kit form that will include the intake and controller for use with the carb.

http://edelbrock.carshopinc.com/prod..._id/76819/2908

Or you could buy this box that is programable via laptop
http://msdignition.carshopinc.com/pr..._id/72792/6010

Then you add this intake

Thanks guys for the help
I think I will go the way of the MSD system, I like the single coil per cylinder better any how.

the front drive set uo costs a bunch. you have to buy an ati balancer and all sorts of other parts. just get an edelbrock victor jr ls1 intake and the msd 6ls ignition box. total cost, $600 for both. the msd 6ls allows you to program your timing via a lap top. very nice setup. im building a carb ls1.

look into wegner motorsports, they make really cool ls1 parts including an extra long water pump for use with the front drive cover. after all, they designed that system.

GMPP Front Timing Cover w/ distributor drive gear - $435 from Summit
MSD 289/302 Distributor - $230 from Summit
MSD Blaster Coil - $50ish from Summit
ATI Balancer - $450ish

You can run a manual fuel pump with this timing cover if you want, but I'm blocking mine off and running an electric pump. All the factory electronics can be removed with this setup and its A LOT better looking and easier to tune than the msd box and factory coils. Basically old school tuning with new school LSX POWER!!

Call Summitt Racing and ask for a guy named Yager...

Thanks but I'm going to go with the MSD box and Eddelbrock Intake I think.
Less money and better performance.

Well sell the stuff off yours and buy the Eddlebrock stuff.
You should be able to make almost half of the cost.

Thanks again guys for the help/input
