Default 1964 Chevy II Exhaust Manifolds or Headers

Ok guys, I am down to needing to know which manifolds will work on an ls1 swapped 62-65 Chevy II. I am thinking the corvette mani's are the ones I need, but if anyone has an insight please let me know.

Info:

The car is a stock from subframe with stock strut towers and inner fenders. Any help is appreciated.

I don't think you will get any stock manifolds to fit on a stock clip. I tried the vettes and trucks with an aftermarket clip and they both hit the passenger side frame rail. Frame is in the same spot on a stock clip, might want to try some shortys that is what I ended up with.

where did you pick up the shorty headers for your car? And about how much?

I am having problems with the steering box. If you know of a manifold that clears the steering box, let me know.

I got them from Summit for about 375 coated. Got any pics of your project? Not to try and steer you to another forum but Steves has a pretty good thread on LS1 Nova installs.

you are NOT going to find off the shelf header that will fit a C2 with the stock clip. Your choices are build some, or have someone build some. I am at the same stage in my conversion, and I have talked to just about everyone!

Steves is a great site, but there is only one small thread on LSX powerplants and installs. Conversion info is limited, but anything else nova related is more than covered. Feel free to come on over and join the crew.

NOPE. They may work for a clipped car, but you guys dont have to contend with that steering box that sits 2 inches off the frame rail.

I am contending with the steering box right now. I cannot get anything to go past it.

This is true the stock sheetmetal is tight in there. I wonder if they would work though, even with a clip the rails are in 2" and there is still the steering shaft to work around. Here is a drivers side pic.

Is there any way you can measure on the number 5 primary, how far off of the head flange that the tube juts out. every manifold I have measured has been about 4 inches, I have 3 inches to play with

The steering box locates between #5 and #7. Judging by the pic of your header, I doubt it woudl fit due to the tube on #5 dropping straight down. I would be all for a set of shorties if they would work. I will try to post a pic when I get home tonight.....

Click on the pic for a larger version

It is hard to tell, but the box is located right between 5 & 7. I plan on moving the engine forward 1" to give me clearance in other areas.

here are some more pics if you are interested http://good-times.webshots.com/album/557624863pacNjI

If the shorties wont work for you it looks like custom will be your only solution. I have the hooker shorties on my clipped car but you have even less room to play with so either custom headers or a rack and pinion conversion is in your future.

Bumping, because I am interested too. Anything of the shelf that works in these cars.

So I put the header flat on the ground and measured the farthest tube out and it is right at 4". If you need any other measurements let me know.

I'm running into header fitment problems as well but I've got a custom front clip. I finally gave up trying to fit 4 primaries in between my frame head and the motor mount. I yanked the engine today and cut the motor mounts off. LOL I'm gonna hunt down factory C5 mounts which will give me much more room to run these.

If you end up building your own I have a set of header flanges and 2 sets of collectors(one set 2.5" one set 3") I'll make you a good deal on.
