LS1& T-56 into a 1969 impala wagon.
Just some info Im tossing around in my head. A 2000-2002 ls1 & 6 speed take out and put in a 1969 chevy inpalla wagon. The wagon used to be a 327 & 3speed on the tree.Would like to upgrade.Car would be used daily to go to work in all kind of weather.Inportant to me is dependability , good milage around 20 hwy and 12to15 city.Im thinking of a good cold air intake a set of full lenght headers.Change the shifter to somthing longerto fit in the car.Rear in the car would be changed to a 4:11 rear and posi.So my question i what to you think.Could any of you suggest a cam for this.ANY thoughts would be cool. Thanks to all.Heres a picture of when I pulled It out of garage in Pittsburgh after being in there for 30 yrs.Looking for any suggestion.thanks

Great idea! I love wagons and this one is gonna be killer. Ls1 and M6 will be a great combo. Your mileage goals are very attainable. Are you going to stay injected or run a carb? Best of luck with the build!

I haven't seen very many threads in this forum with guys putting LS1s in B Body cars. I'd be curious about what oil pan and headers would clear the steering linkage.
Man that LS1 will look tiny in that huge engine bay! My '67 with a Big block gives me acres of room to spread out and work on.

I am putting a 6.0L/4L80E in a 70 Impala (=same car, apart from the face lift).
The oil pan was the main problem because the car is a rear steer, I had to cut the truck pan a lot to clear the centerlink.
For headers, I used '70 Impala big block headers, modified to mount on GMPP LS1 exhaust flanges: pretty close, only about half the pipes needed to be cut a bit and rewelded.
I have used motor mount adapters from Transdapt, easy, no sweat, leaves a good 2" between rear of block and firewall, enough to lift the engine to install oil pan!
The engine fits in place with the stock A/C suitcase and the stock master cylinder/booster; I did have to remove th rear driver side coil to swing the engine in place, but that's it.
I am using the stock trans crossmember, just moved a few inches to line up with trans.

Got any pics of the oil pan and how the steering clears?

Ls1 & T-56
Thanks for the Invaluable info.My wagon doesnt have AC so it should be a little better fitting it in.I have looked into 1969 Camaro BBC headers & depends on the brand They seam to be the same Part # as the Impala BBC headers.I know they make LS1 headers for Camaro so I was thinking these would fit. Being able to use BBC headers helps with the cost. You gotta let us know how this runs. The room of the big car and a LS1 would make a great car.I also have a 1970 Caprice. Its a 454 car with power windows, locks, seat, trunk, tilt wheel, cruise, and posi.I put the largest sway bars I could find and heavy duty springs front and rear.Added a 1985 Monte Carlo SS steering box to it and the car handles great.I added a 700r4 and 3:55 gears in the rear.I get about 10 MPG in the city but 18-19 on the road.Great cruzzer.I would like to see some pictures of your stuff.I think there would be alot of interest in B body car LS1's.

I used the 4L60E. The mileage on the road is 20 plus. I had Speartech do the wiring harness and reprogram the computer. The car weights 4300 lbs and has a lot of lowend torque. Performance wise I can beat a Dodge Hemi without any problem. I will organize my photos and post them soon for you and anybody else that is interested.
