Another LS1 foxbody thread
Hey guys, I'm new to LS1 tech and I had a few questions. I've been using the search feature and reading about as much as i can before i posted a thread, i was just looking for some definite links or ideas. What i want to do is put an LS1 into my 88 Mustang GT and turbo it. The couple questions i had were:
What motors mounts do i use?
Do they make swap crossmembers?
I'd like to run a T56 but would the driveshaft have to be modified at all? What about where the shifter goes? Or any of the clutch components since the car currently is a 5 speed?
I'm planning on running it carburated and i found an intake and timing control box from edelbrock so i'm probably going with that route. Is there anything else i have to worry with wiring?
Would i need all new gauges / new dash to fit those gauges?
For cooling, i read a 99 Camaro radiator and hoses would fit with minimal modification. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
I am in the process of finishing a 351windsor but the price of race gas on a college students budget is just too much. And after beating a Lamborghini Murcielago in my friends turbo Trans Am, I was converted. Any help is greatly appreciated guys and thanks in advance!

I am running a T-56. As far as the driveshaft goes , I had to have one made. I used the stock Camaro slip yoke , but bought a new beefier flange for the 8.8 . Mine was 44 1/2" long from the cap centers . And thats useing the AJE k-member and mounts . If I remember correctly it cost me less that $200 to have it built .

I had to cut the rear of the original opening on the trans tunnel back a few inches .

as for the radiator , it will fit without issues as well as the hoses . all you have to do is tilt it a bit ( bottom part will sit where the ford ac condenser usually sits) and use the stock ford radiator hold downs.
motor mounts: use the 4.6 mounts from a 96 and up stang ( get the poly ones for a more rigid mount), 2 of the three bolt holes will line up with the hole sin the block , but the third one needs a small plate or extension to reach the other hole in the block.
guages: the fuel and volts guages in the dash will work and you could hook up the oil pressure guage . the rpm guage doesn't go up high enough and the speedo is cable operated, so its a bit hard to make it work. you can use the stock guage pod or enclosure and put your own guages ( look at what brains did - awsome work! look up www.ls1mustang.com)

1diryZ, wouldn't it be easier to use the AJE crossmember and swap mounts they supply? This is all new to me so i'd like to get opinions on what would be the easiest.

i used the AJE 4.6 member and used 4.6 mounts. this setup ( i beleive) sets the engine as far back as possible. in my case the passenger head is about 1/2 to 2/3 of an inch away from the firewall.
using the aje swap k member will most likely ( not sure on this) move the engine a bit forward in the compartment.

With the AJE swap k-member , I can see the head of the bell housing bolts from the top. A couple inches is a big deal..... exp when you go trying to throw the console in and modifying the shifter handle.
