Default Engine Swap

Guys first off if this is in the wrong section I'm sorry wasn't sure where to posy it. I have an 02 v6 firebird and was wanting to do the LS1 swap. Came across a 5.3 silverado motor and have saw people talk about puttin gem in S10's and stuff like that never could find anything specific for putting it in a 93-02 v6 f body. Is this something that would require any more work than the 5.7 LS1 swap?

Putting a 5.3 in place of the v-6 should be exactly the same amount of work as swapping in a 5.7 or 6.0. (Unless there's something about the 5.3 that I don't know about...)

My 2 cents - if better performance is what you're after, if you're going to go to all of the work anyway, go with the biggest cubes you can (unless you're getting a *sweet* deal on the smaller engine)...

Good luck.

Sort of, yes. But once you start swapping in hop-up parts you'll have spent about the same amount of money as you would have for a 6.0. 5.3s are good if you plan on turboing or SCing because they have a very low compression ration stock (9:1) and with a little porting of the heads they can easily go down to 8.5:1 or so. Perfect for forced induction. If you want to go N/A and don't want to spend the money on the LS1 (I don't blame you, by the way) the 6.0 is an awesome motor. Getting 450-500 HP out of these is so simple. IF I were to swap a motor into a v6 fourth gen, it'd be the 6.0. It's really not that much more expensive, but the difference in potential "out of the box" (so to speak) is huge.
