Default Noob LS1 in an BMW e30?

Well I have this great 1985 BMW and I can't figure out what I want to put into it. I originally wanted to put BMW's new diesel M57 with 276 HP 404 torque and 40 MPG. However, it is just to much to import that motor. So what about a LS1? It weights less, cost less, gets better gas mileage, and puts out about 100 more horse power then the S50/52 M3 BMW motors. I have seen a couple e30's with them online. Why not join their ranks? Is there anyone on here who has completed the project? If so what problems did you run into? Most importantly where should I get my engine and tranny? I'm thinking that I will just take the complete wiring even the cluster, but maybe not? What do you guys think? I have been looking on ebay and I can go junk yard hunting but if you were to get a engine where would you pull it from? Thanks.
