Default 5.3 Vortec in older car..... more power...

Hi I have bought a 2006 5.3 Vortec that I plan to have installed into an older car. The guy I got it form have done all the wiring and computer reprogramming of the computer for my axle ratio and tire height. It is also programmed to run on 95 octane. I am planning to install headers and dual 2,5inch exhaust. K&N air filter and electrical fans.

How much power can I expect to have?

And I am also flirting with the thought of how I can make more power in the future.
Lets imagine I`ve got a $2-3000, how can i make the most power with my money? Cam, Heads, Supercharger, Turbo? (And please don`t say put in a 6.0L or nitrous, I`ve got this engine and plan to use it, will get a 6.0 next time, and since I live in Norway theese engine aren`t as easy to find over here)

I would still like to use it on a dayly bases in the summer here in Norway, so I can`t have something too extreme, and would like to have good torque down low as well.

Any Ideas? Thanks

For 2 to 3000 dollars, you won't even get close to a turbo or supercharger setup. The best bet would be a cam, intake, throttle body, and have some port work done on the heads.

Depending on what you are after, you may find the 5.3 is perfect the way it is. I would fully expect you to exceed 300hp, which is a nice, comfy number. If you want more power after that, MC is right, you need to look at Cam, intake, head-work. Leave some cash on the table for some tuning as well, you can pick up a bit of HP just having the engine tuned. You didn't mention what older car you are using, that will make a big difference on what you should expect on the butt-dyno. That 5.3 will move a 5K lb truck pretty nice, it will really scoot in a 2800lb car.

We have 5.3L packages making anywhere from 350 to 425 hp. I would say your best bet would be a cam/spring/tune package. This would make the most sense. I don't think heads are going to be a good use of money, especially if you still want to retain low end power.
