Default Pre-Filter

I would like to install a fuel pump pre-filter on a nearly stock LS1 swap. Though the tank has a screen, I would feel better about keeping small particulates out of the fuel pump (in-line Walbro #392, 255 LPH). I'm thinking the Summit 40 micron #SUM-230101 which is rated at 130 GPH (492 LPH), though they specify it for carbureted applications. The 130 GPH is likely its rate at something like 7 psi. Any reason why this can't be used as a pre-filter for EFI?

There's also a 75 micron Earl's filter that's rated at 4 GPM (100 LPM). That one ok? Since this is between the tank and pump, there is no excessive pressure requirements.

Thanks,

Andy1

I'm using the Earl's 85 Micron Filter as a Pre-Filter.

Hey Tom,

Why did you choose that one? Also, is that another filter you're using between the pump and the 'Vette filter/regulator?

GZ u spent alot on those fittings. I started pricing them for my truck, they add up really quick.

The 85 Micron is only there to keep trash out of the pump, the finer filters have too much restriction and cause the pump to cavitate.

The part after the pump is a check valve to prevent fuel siphoning. (The pump needs back pressure to be effective and it also helps at startup.) The Bosch pump has a check valve, but it's lost in the conversion to AN fittings.

...and the fittings weren't so bad once I found Earl's #1 Store online, but if I had to do it over again, I would go with a turnkey Rock Valley in-tank setup. The guy who fabbed my tank talked me into building the external set-up. We're both idiots!
