Only 300 HP out of a LQ4?
From what I've read, I thought the newer LQ4 engines make 325 HP, but I'm thinking of getting a LQ4 and 4L80-E Schram Auto has that has only 1 mile on it.
It is from a van I thought he said a 2006 or 2007, and he said it has 300 HP.
Do the pickup trucks get the 325, and the vans get 300? Why less, is it a tuning thing?
Also, does anyone know if Schram Auto is good to buy from?
Their pictures sure show the engines looking clean, but only 1 mile sounds kinda fishy, I've seen other listings with engines with only 5 miles, or 6 miles, I would hate to spend a big amount on this $3300.00, plus shipping to find out it's a bad setup GM pulled out and replaced for warranty reasons.
I know the horsepower is not as important as torque, but the 300 when other LQ4's are @ 325 sounds weak.

Check out Chevrolet.com, from what i see the Van 5.3L came with less Hp then the Trucks 5.3L (301hp vs 315hp) 325TQ is on the Vans and 338TQ on trucks. 6.0L is where thre standard HP is 367 horsepower @ 5500 rpm 375 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4300 rpm for trucks. Just slap a cam in whatever you get and call it a day

Schram is an awsome outfit to deal with! I purchased the exact combo you are looking at out of an 06 van and the ebay auction said it had less than 12 miles on it. With the condition it was in I had no reason to doubt this. I dont know if this is true but someone told me they get crash test vehicles on occasion. Again, dont know if this is true just what I was told. With mine I even got the oil cooler lines, fuel lines and the exhaust with the cats! The combo was about as complete as you can get. I went this route since I was converting from a big block and needed everything. As far as the HP of the combo goes I have seen them advertised between 300-325. What the actual number is who knows.

Forgot to mention that I also got the PS hoses, radiatior hoses,AC lines and the factory van air cleaner setup with mine. They also did a great job of building a sturdy shipping skid and wraping the entire combo to keep it protected from the elements.

As far as I know the lq4 in the vans are detuned via the pcm for nvh and trans longevity since they are quite often overloaded and the engine is pretty much in the driver seat. They all share the same cam according to the will handzel book. Like the other guy said slap a cam in it and dont look back.

Thumbs up for Schram. I have a 2005 Suburban engine with all Acc. and computer and wiring from them. <100 miles, believed it when I got the engine. Looked like it came straight off the line. Has close to 10,000 miles now, no problems. Great to deal with as well. If its TBW, ask for the pedal and TAC and harness as well, if they still have the vehicle. Good luck.

My 2006 2500HD is rated at 300 hp at 4400 and 360 ft-lb torque at 4000. It depends on the year of the engine. The older trucks were rated at 325. I think it's just in the programming.

Shram is a great place to buy from. They get stuff from the end of line production, thats how it only has 1 mile on it. If you need, you can send the computer here and I could give it a good solid calibration for $225.00. The factory leaves a lot on the table as far as calibration goes, especially in the vans.

Pretty hard to predict. Every dyno is different. Altitude, fuel octane, type of exhaust and air intake system, thermostat, E-fan vs mechanical, etc.
4L80E/2,400 stall converter, with 3.73 gears in your truck with a well tuned LQ4 with a good exhaust and intake.....you'll like it.

GM also seems to rate their engines how they feel like it. the Corvette LS1 was exactly the same as the F-body LS1, but they rated the corvette at 350 and the f-body at 310-325

x2 on Schram. I got a LQ9 combo from them that was exactly like eagleuh1 described. It was advertised as complete and came missing the TAC and harnesses for the ETC setup. I didn't realize it until ~4 mo later when I was doing the install and Schram stepped up and sent the parts without any hassle. Their integrity was priceless.
Good luck.

Did all the vans also have the aluminum heads as the trucks did? I'm looking at one this weekend out of a 2003 with a 4l80e. The truck was rolled and can't seem to find the actual odometer reading. The cab it came out of had the dash damaged and they couldn't tell me the mileage. I did a carfax, but, the last reading that was shown was 18,000 miles on 11/03. It had regular service after that, but, the mileage wasn't shown. So, no one seems to know the miles. The package is pretty clean and looking down thru the oil fill in the valve cover looks clean also. Could have 60,000 or could have 160,000. Still can't decide if I should take a chance or not.

Purchased the lq4 and 4l80e. Paid $1600 for the package. Guess I'm taking a chance not knowing the miles, but, what the hell. I'm going to put a new cam and lifters, springs, timing chain, push rods, oil pump. Put 2200 stall and give it hell. You know I bought it cheap enough, should be ok. If it breaks, I'll fix it. Six bolt main, should be good to go. I'm probably going to go ahead and put an ls1 manifold on it. The truck manifold is scary looking and I show this truck, so, its probably got to go. Anyone have a ls1 manifold and fuel rail. Let me know.

You are also going to need a different waterpump. You can get the 98 vette w.p. at napa for $125 and a bolt on pulley from GM for around $15. The LS1 intake will make the throttlebody hit the outlet of the w.p. Look on ebay for the LS1 manifold. You should be able to find a complete setup. They aren't as desireable as the LS6 manifolds. The LS1 install guide from GM has a block off plate in there that you can use to plug the egr hole.
