Default What fuel pump to use?

I'm putting an LS1 out of a 98 Trans Am into my 1980 CJ5, and need a fuel pump. Just a quick search from Google and Jegs and I came up with this, what do you guys think? Suggestions? Opinions? I'm open to everything. Still learning.

The "generic, one-size-fits-most-all" answer is a Walbro 255 - but it's entirely possible that someone will chime in with a different answer...

Grewe02,
That pump you have listed from Jeg's is only 40 psi and that's not enough if you plan on using the EFI. You need the walbro 255 or the vortech T-rex.

Sounds like the Walbro is on the list. Thanks guys.

Does the pump come with a filter? Or would just a cheap one from Auto Zone work?

The LS7 does not use a return I am told. What does that do to the system?

I see that you're using lots of the stainless braided lines. Do I need to buy some of those, or will my stock ones hold up to this fuel pump?

you need to bump up the hard line to a 3/8'' going up to the engine(you can get that from napa -60inches long for 6 dollars) then go w/ 3/8'' braided steel or just plain rubber hose

i used rubber/clamps(ghetto!) because i dont have the time or money to do AN/braided steel. no problems with it

i dont think you would get away with rubber lines for very long. i chose braided lines/ an fittings because its one of those things that you do once and its done for good. a cheaper way would be to buy some hard line, flare the ends, and then use an fittings at the fuel tank and motor.

I like the braided line because you do it right once & forget it.

Well say you're on a budget.... And the motor is already set up for everything... Turn key. Would I be ok with the cheap stuff for a month or two? I definitely DO plan on getting the stainless lines and AN fittings, just can't afford it right now.

Jomamma, have you tried this before? Any idea how well this will work for just temp use?

rubber lines are not bad/un-reliable. IMO people think this because they are not professional looking which makes them think they do not work well. the walbro 255lph pump COMES with barbed male fittings- made for rubber hoses. if you want everything to look neat/professional then go with AN. ive been running rubber hose for the past 7 months and i have had no problems

there is nothing wrong with using rubber hoses, just make sure they are on there good lol

braided stainless lines don't last forever. The rubber-lined ones deteriorate almost as fast as non-braided rubber, and you can't see what condition the rubber is in. The teflon lined braided stainless lines will last long time--usually it's the fittings that get damaged/broken on those.

I used Aeroquip socketless hose for the flex portion of my fuel lines. Good quality and easy to assemble. No tools needed to install the fittings on the hose, and it's good for 250psi.

use what you want. if the rubber line is rated for the psi needed, then go for it. just chech the fittings a little more often , lol!

Go with the Walbro 255, we have them in stock, with the filter and fittings for $109.99.

Give me a call on the rest of the stuff. We have all the fuel lines and fittings you will need to complete your swap.

What do you guys think about this? It's not made for my frame, but I'm pretty positive I could make it work. And The fuel pump in there doesn't have to stay. I could get a different in tank one. Will the Walbro fit in there?
