Default 02 Camaro LS1 into 98 Nissan 240

Just recently got my 98 Nissan 240sx back from XAT Racing in Tampa with an 02 Camaro LS1 with 41k. Below are the list of everything done:

Chevy LS1 6-speed motorset
Chin Mount Kit
Custom Headers
Radiator Hoses
Harness Conversion
Koyo Aluminum Radiator
Heater Hoses
New Performance Clutch Kit
FAL fans
Custom Intake
Crossmember fabrication
Custom ac and pc lines (working PS and AC)
Custom header-back exhaust
Custom Driveshaft
OEM Parts and Supplies (new plugs, belts, fluids)
Walbro Fuel Pump
RPM and SPEEDO Gauge adapters

Other mods:
Texas Speed 224/224 .566"/.566" Cam
Fidanza Flywheel(soon to be replaced by LS7 clutch/flywheel assembly)
Tein Super Drift Coilovers
300zx TT Remanufactured Calipers and Rotors (f) PBR Metal Master pads
Front strut bar
J30 VLSD
5Zigen FN01R-C, 225/40R-17(f) 255/40R-17 Yokohama es100

This combination with tuning at RedStar Performance made 376whp 358tq with the clutch repeatedly slipping on the dyno not allowing a really hard run to be made. Thats why I just purchased an LS7 Clutch/Flywheel assembly to be installed soon.

Dyno Results and A few Pictures below:

very nice. I use to have a red 97 auto 240 and traded it in on a white 99 TA. Knowing what i know now, i would have done what you did.

Was the wiring a nightmare? How did you go about getting it inspected? Looks pretty cool

so this is the car Eli was telling me about the other day. nice setup. they were telling me someone was wanting to use the LS7 cltuch/flywheel in another 240 and asking how mine was holding up since i've gotten it from them. depending on which clutch was in it, the pedal will feel insanely light compared to most aftermarket clutches but it still grabs nicely.

i want to build a second ls1 240sx more like yours, keeping it a nice street car with full interior and amenities. my drift car is fun to bring out from time to time, but uncomfortable to drive around on the street too often.

wiring is easy (although i believe he had it all done by XAT).

as for inspection, i think he said he's from FL and i don't think there are any emissions restrictions there. i live in GA but in an emissions exempt county so it's the same idea, pay ad valorem and get my tag each year

You mean the cost? The cost is posted online at their site, but everything after that price is confidential We dont have emissions inspections in FL yet, we are getting it, but only for cars made after 2008 or 2000, cant remember. It sweet though, no inspections.

Unfortunately, i dont have pics of ac and ps setup, all the work was done by XAT because I dont have time to. They did an awesome job though. The tuning Eli did was absolutely top notch and the car pulls like a beast right now.

How does the LS7 clutch hold up? I just bought one for $340 brand new, and it should be gettin here soon to go in the car.

it's been great, going on about 9 months in the car and every time it's used it's abused. i previously had a spec stg.1 in the car and i killed it in less than 6 months (engine is stock making 355whp after tune). the LS7 clutch/fly gives a very nice light pedal feel, but it still grabs plenty. it's extremely streetworthy though, i'd definitely recommend it for a daily driver.

How hard is the install for this clutch on a t56 in a s14? Is it terribly hard to do? Thanks.

well I would say not that bad with 2 people! I would unbolt your engine cross member just until the bolts are still just threaded on a bit then pull drive line and undo transmission crossmember and you may have to undo the ls1 mounts to the engine crossmember and jack up motor and angle it so transmission points down to ground. Obviously unbolt exhaust and all that, and drains transmission fluid and unhook the cmc line! Then pull motor forward just enough to slide out the transmission. I helped my friend do it 3 times. ls1neezy actually. When he did his clutch line his line leaked 3 separate times before he got it right! Depends on how mechanical you are! Good Luck. I'm running the ls7 clutch and flywheel in my car and it works great !

it was pretty rough in my 13 the first time we did it, but now that i have a process i could knock it out in a few hours.

i would recommend what daft said, loosening the subframe nuts to drop the engine down and allow some extra movement to lean everything back. i had to take the trans off of the bellhousing first, then pull the bellhousing out separately.

Its easiest to remove the tranny from the bell housing. We took mine out as one piece and OMG I wont do that again.

on ground:
-remove shifter stick (shift assembly can stay in)

on lift:
-drain trans
-remove driveshaft
-remove trans wiring
-loosen engine subframe nuts until they are flush with the ends of the studs (best to use some stands under the engine just in case, do not loosen too far)
-remove bolts holding trans to bellhousing and pull trans back and out of the car
-i used a tall threaded jack stand under the front of the engine to tilt it back as far as possible on the loose mounts, then removed the bellhousing bolts and wiggled the bellhousing out (this was the hard part)

the rest of the process is just remove clutch/flywheel and replace with new stuff, torque properly and re-assemble in reverse order. you will likely need some long extensions and universals to get at the bolts easily enough.

also make sure to get a new slave cylinder/throwout bearing and replace it while you're in there.
