Default Basic upgrades before install

I am getting to the point in my install where I will hopefully only have to pull my engine once more. What basic (cheap) upgrades or mods. should I do while it's out. It's a 2001 Ls1 so the rod bolts are better than other years, should I do oil pump now? Anything else easy to do now and not later, any seals I should replace as a precaution? Once the motor is in I'll still have pretty easy access to the top and sides but bottom and possible the front of the motor are going to get harder to get at. Should I do a cam now while it's or should I work on getting it to run before modifying internals?
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Jon

Probably depends on the milage the engine has, unless you want to do a cam.

Depending on miles and what power output you are expecting. If your happy with stock power you can probably run it as is fine. If you have the cash and want the power now is one of the easiest times to upgrade.

The engine has 46k on it, everything seems to be visually fine, plugs, ect. Should I not worry about a pump then, I guess I could wait till cam time and do pump, chain, cam. Nothing else first?

I forgot to mention, ideally i am looking for about 500 hp, I don't need it right away but down the line that's where I am aiming.

if it were me i would possibly consider doing your valve springs now, that way when you do the cam swap you dont have to deal with doing it in the car. just my .02
