Thumbs up Is this a Good Deal???

I have the opportunity to get a 5.3 and auto trans out of a 2001 chevy silverado with about 10k miles on it for $600.

It has everything there minus the computer and wiring harness.

Would this be a good buy? it would be for my 51 chevy that now has a SBC 350 and a turbo 350 trans?

Also if I do get it, should I find a computer and harness or just swap a carbureted manifold and carb on there? Which would be easier?

Alright, well I am open to all opinions out there

Thanks

Yes thats a good deal, especially with a tranny. Got any pics of the car? A coupe? Im looking for something like that now actually. It be easier to use the factory injections, harness and pcm. And probably cost a lot less.

Sounds like a good deal to me,you can't even buy a good 350 and turbo 350 for that any more. You should be able to get at least some of your money back on the 350 if you want. The carb setup is ok but I think if your going the ls1/5.3 route you will be happier in the end with the fuel injection .

I'd buy that just for a spare for $600!!! Just a good used 4l60e would cost you that or more. And yeah, I'd keep the injection, you would be happier with it in the long run. IMO

Ok so to keep the fuel injection, does anybody know where I could get a reasonably priced computer and harness for it?

And heres some pics of the car as it stands now

easiest way to do it is the carb set-up, but from the reading I have done you will be happier with the factory FI. Speartech can do your harness and programming, but it costs. check out their web page. I think they can provide the items you are missing.

Check on oil pan clearance too, the truck pan hangs really low. You should be fine with the intake and possibly the truck accesories, as i tlooks like you have plenty of hood clearance.

The injection setup would not be very expensive to keep in this application. By the time you purchase the carb kit and a carb you will be close if not in excess of what the injection would have cost to keep.

Nice, looks like I will be going with the fuel injection.

Seems like the better route so far.
