Vortec 5.3 into 1997 2dr 4wd Tahoe swap
I am just sorting out what would be the best engine for that swap. As I live in Germany and our fuel prices are quite different from yours ( we pay about 8 - 8.40USD for a gallon!!)
I thought about some upgrade. My old 5.7 Vortec isn't something you would call "cheap on gas".
So idea no 1. is a flex fuel ( gas and E85) engine. Those 5.3's had RPO code L59 up to '06. But to do a real thing I would like to stuff a '06 or newer 5.3 L (RPO code LMG or LC9) with active
fuel management under the hood. I think GM called it displacement on demand.
Has anybody done such a conversion? I heard those engines were demanding from the wiring side and that the instrument cluster was part of the engines wiring?
So as electronic engineer I should be able to manage all the problems but it would help a lot to have some opinions on this matter.
I will be in La Habra, CA in April and then again June/July.. so if anybody has ideas, parts or more pls contact me
Thx
