Default My 62 Impala Project

Some of you might know that I picked up a 62 Biscayne Wagon a few months back, well I was going to build it then I found this 62 Impala instead (thank god for craigslist) The car has 80k original miles on it, and was family owned (not my family) and was an overall better foundation for the project.

Right now the project is in it's infancy but a run-down on what it has now are as follows---

-C5 Corvette PBR Calipers
-13" Crossdrilled and slotted rotors (all 4 corners)
-LS1 w/ 4L60E (Plans until I can build a real engine are just cam, t-stat, headers, and a stall)
-Moser 9" w/ 3.90 gear
-Hotchkis suspension components
-2" drop spindles so it should still ride smooth

Lots of other stuff and mods are on the way and planned but here it is in it's current state-

Looks great! I'm planning on doing a similar swap on my '63 Impala soon. Which motor mounts are you using?

Looks very cool!

I love the weathered look w an nice painted frame and late model engine!!

All the mechanicals look new, but keep the patina!

I dig it!!

What size tires are up front? Those VWW wheels?

Only thing I would do differently is T56 rather than the auto.

Thanks guys!

The car will be a cruiser that should move good too. I plan on doing a whole different engine combo down the road but for now I'm just goin to do H/C/Stall and shoot for like 440hp ish to get around for now. My 7" brake booster didn't clear the coils/valve covers so I'm doing to go hydro-assist brakes now, this way I'll still have enough vacum for A/C and the brakes.

The mounts are the S&P mounts. Yes those are Vintage Wheel Works wheels left over from my 91 LS1 Z28 that I sold, they're 17x9.5 w/ 275/40/17R BFG DR's. I only have two left from the other car so once I hang the sheetmetal on the front I can figure out if I can just get 2 more or have to re-size for the front.

The T56 would be cool but we're building this for more my dad then me so this will be a lot easier to drive for him.

Yes I love 62' B-Body cars, I have my 62' Biscayne wagon that'd be a cool project too but I'm going to have to sell it instead.

hey buddy is your 62 a x-framed car? Well the real question I need to ask is does your steering center link mount behind your engine cradle. I am putting a 6.0 Lq4 into my 68 impala, I have already switched to the f-body oil pan and my center link needs to be 2 inches lower to clear the oil pan. If you or any body can give advice thanks.

My 62 Impala was front steer, all steering is forward of crossmember. If memory serves me right, 57-64 were all x-frame

Hey guys sorry I'm behind on the replies. The car was 5-6K, it's one family owned with supposedly 80k on it original, it's pretty damn clean all around.

I'm not using SnP plates anymore, I'd using BRP mounts now and then will have their longtube headers once they come in 1 and 7/8"

I also switched to an LS2/M6 soo yea things are a bit different. Im running the CTS-V oil pan too. The angles arent set yet, I have to clearance the floor pan still so the trans will tuck up.

I'll try to get some new pics up soon!

I'm about this ]--[ close to doing the same thing, found a cheap 64 impala on CL and seeing these motors w/ transmissions for 2k is really making me think about it. Good luck with the swap, I'll definitely be watching!

Default yea

I have a 63 SS ht since I was 13 and am now 31 and recently purchased a rust free 63 ss vert that has never had any body work done for a LQ9 T-56 transplant. Purchased the motor two weeks ago and am looking for a t-56 now. I am also wroking on putting a LS1 K memeber under it connected to a canadian Frame. we will see good luck on yours.

The name kind of gives it away.

The BRP mounts are a nice looking part, however I still haven't set the final position of the engine yet. Really not a lot of progress since last time I posted, been too busy with work.

The wagon would have been really cool. But I like any 62 fullsize.
