5.3 wire harness
ok some quick q's i just got my 5.3 for my 81 camaro but it didnt have a wire harness i thought about just buying one but think i can just rework the oem one
1. do i have to use the 04 harness or can i get 99+ harness with pcm
2. is there a vin on the motor any where so i can find out exactly what truck it came out of
3.can i use all of the ls1 or camaro accesories

Are you saying you have an '04 engine and no harness? If you have an '04 engine then it is most likely TBW. If you want to keep the throttle body (post a pic if you can) you currently have then yes you will need the '04 or newer harness and PCM to run it. TBW truck throttle bodies came in two versions and the connectors are not interchangeable. If you want to run the engine with mechanical throttle then you will need a '99-03 non-traction control harness and also purchase a mechanical truck TB. Depending on your wiring ability, you can make just about any 24X motor run with any GEN3 PCM and harness. If you are changing the accessories to Camaro then forget everything I said above and get a '99-02 camaro harness/PCM and throttle body. Painless harness part number 60508.

From the factory there was a sticker on the back of one of the engine heads with the engine code on it. This engine code can be referenced by any dealership as to what the engine came out of. Not sure why you care what the engine came out of.
