Default 67 RS LS1 .. 16" fan too small?

Would a 16" Hayden electric fan be able to cool an LS1 ? I'm using a stock(BBC) radiator and it's pretty short (23" of cooling area) the 4th gen fans are too big. Any ideas? If I make a custom shroud will that help a lot or a little? Thanks in advance.

That should work fine, especially with a shroud. That's what I am running with a 14" pusher fan that comes on with the AC

I am running the flex a lite 210 dual fan setup on my s10 with a 6.0 and it stays cool with a/c on in traffic in 100+ degree heat. If your radiator has the room this may be an option.

You can pull a fan out of a Ford Taurus for about $20 at any pick and pull. If that fits it will work

i had a 16" derale tornado fan on my 69 and it still ran hot using an aluminum repo radiator from classic.

i ended up making some brackets out of 90* aluminum stock and mounted some 4th gen F body fans to the rad. works great.

Good to see that the 16 inch fan will work well with LS setup. I am using the same DeWitts radiator and Spal fan I had with my small block. I hope to try it out this weekend sometime.

Huh? With a little trimming, the 4th gen fans fit perfectly over my 21" wide 4-row smallblock radiator.

I know the 16" Hayden won't cool most small blocks... the LSx like to run hotter so you might be able to get away with it, but you'd be better off with something the flowed a decent amount of air like the 4th gen setup, the Mark VIII, or a dual Spal setup.

I picked up a Taurus fan after enough discussion.... cheaper, more much more air and just might fit even better. Anybody know how the Ford wiring of the 2 spd fan works? Thanks, in advance.

Just read a little about this the other day on another message board. The yellow/black wire is the high speed and the orange/black is the slow speed. The remaining wire would be the negative. Try it first before you permanently wire it up to be for sure.

Hope this helps.

I'm using a 16" Spal, I think it's the 2600 cfm unit, and the car never gets over 180 degrees. Oh, and it's a 68 Nova btw.

Now this is the good news I wanted to hear. After reading everything above I was beginning to doubt it was going to cool good enough.

I have been reading about fans for a week now. The Taurus fan from the late 90s with the 3.8 motor has a single 16" fan. 2 speed and on high pulls 4500 CFM!! Plus they are everywhere from 20 local to 80 shipped new. There isnt a single fan out there readily available that can pull 4500. Another plus is they can be trimmed easily to get a 3.5" depth i believe. Might be 4.5".
