Exclamation Help-Swapping Gen III 4.8L into 84 Chevy p/u

Swapping 03-up 4.8L into 84 Chevy SWB. Originally 250 Straight 6/3 spd manual, single gas tank. Trying to do swap as cheap as possible. 03 up 4.8L/4L60 trans-100% stock. Immediate issue is the fuel system. Can't afford a Rock Valley Fuel tank, adapting stock system to work with externally mounted electric fuel pump. Any input on which fuel pump would work? Looking at Summit's part# SUM-G3137. Any thoughts? Is there a cheaper OEM alternative? Looking to use this in conjunction with 99-up Vette fuel filter that will allow a single fuel line to engine and the filter to return excess fuel to tank (kit from Street & Performance - hotrodlane.cc). Big prob here is that the filter is $72 from Chevy dealer but I cannot find the fittings needed to adapt the fuel filter other than from S&P. They want $40 per fitting & I need 3! Anyone know where or how I can do this cheaper?
From tank I will flare factory 3/8" line & use AN-6 tube nut/sleeves make alum hard line into pump - into fuel filter assembly - to engine. I was told the return line does not need to be hi-pressure line & I could even run a good rubber line for the return. Is this true?
Thanks for all help!

Check out a couple of my threads:

Get the wix filter, like $38, you can use the hard tube to AN compression fittings (not the tube nut kind!)
I used an 87 c10 fuel tank in my 86 and 87 sending unit w/ walbro intank pump.
Read my posts in link above, pretty much shows everything.

If you're trying to do it cheap, you shouldn't be buying anything from S&P!

I got my Delco 'vette filter from rockauto for like $45. I used the Russell quick connect to AN adapters on mine, but if I did it over, I'd just slap compression to AN fittings on it.

I like the Russell fittings. They are inexpensive and work well.

They didn't fit worth a *&^% for me--they were pretty much a press-fit onto the fuel filter.

I guess that's why there are choices!

There only thing to watch for (that I have seen on the forums) is to make sure you get Russell and not earls or pure choice (I think that's the name?). I've seen different ones on here called by the wrong brand. I've had not so good luck with the others, but the Russell's have worked well here.

What do you use for the flow to engine side out of the filter? Don't you need a special piece of tubing b/c of the GM quick disconnect?

- Which Walbro pump did u use? About how much was it? Think it'd be ok to use a junkyard tank? I like the idea of mounting the fuel pump in tank vs. the framerail, just worried about making it more expensive. i'm on way too tight a budget.

I cut off a short piece of tube that had the factory style quick disconnect tube end from my donor motor, and one of those AN to compression fittings, works great.
Can find them in junkyard also, just bring a small tubing cutter.
Can't remember which exact walbro, a junkyard 87 c10 tank will work, so will a stock tank, but get an 87 fuel sending unit that has the pump hanger in it, make sure the tank is clean.(You can save $ by using stock tank, just keep fuel in it!)
You don't have to go with a walbro, you can go with a delco model, but they are all about the same price, don't go cheap on the pump, you are gonna hate dropping the tank and only want to do it once if possible!
just make sure the pump has the offset inlet on the bottom for the factory sending unit to fit correctly.
My harness went to speartech, they do a first class job, worth the $ if you don't want to fool with it.

Looking into Rock Auto - think i'm just gonna buy new tank, etc.

Thinking cheap...I'm looking at this sending unit made by Spectra(pn FG05M)? Thinking i could use this sending unit but run the AC Delco pump pn#EP386 just for higher quality - last longer. What do u guys think? Will this pump feed a GEN III motor? From top of sender i guess i'd use the hardline to AN adapter fitting, AN-6 line to fuel filter & etc.
