5.3 in a 49 pickup
Ok Im almost done, Im down to the fuel and stuff. I got a quick question and I did do a search but it seems everyone is using the corvette regulator and I wont be so that really didnt help much
I take it the 2003 5.3 I have has a regulator on the fuel rail/intake. Ok understood.
I was going to use a stock tank from a GM vehicle but it was TBI and didnt make enough pressure. I have since been talked into a fuel cell. I wanted a in tank pump but oh well not a huge deal. I am willing to spend some $ but would rather not as we all are on projects trying to budget.
What would be the best FP for the job. its going to be an inline pump.
Also any suggestions would be phenomenal.

Use a Walbro 255lph inline. Can be had pretty reasonably online.... fuelpumps.net is who I have used in the past. I like these pumps because they are typically easiest to replace if one goes bad(although they don't often). Also, a single 255 Walbro will support 5-550 at the rear wheels which is a bonus.

If the TBI tank will mount in your truck, just replace the intank pump with a Walbro 255. It will be the cheapest way to go and have plenty of pressure. It will also mount just as the TBI pump does. Can you post a picture of the pressure regulator that you said is mounted on the fuel rail? Depending on what the engine is out of, you may be looking at the dampener that just keeps the fuel pressure from pulsating.

here is the area. I dont have any better pics and Im watching the infant while the wife shops so I cant go get any. This is the area circled with where I thought and was told the regulator was. If not please let me know. and I highlighted the input and return lines of the fuel.
Fuel is now my last concern. I was going to use the tank I had but it is kind of crusty and I'd have to go buy a new one. I would use it but again I was advised to just get a new cell. I have a plastic one lined up right now from ebay with the sending unit.

with that vac line on it I would say it is a regulator. I would also go with the
Walbro 255lph, thats what I bought. I found it for around $100 on e bay.

i bought Sanderson Headers built for an S10 with an LS1 in it. They fit amazing. It will be easy to build a system off these. Im going to have the O2 sensors put in after the headers.
I am going to go with the fuel cell and the inline Walbro 255. Ill get it ordered asap. This week is the week from my dreams I was in the garage for three days straight and got a ton done. Ill post some pics soon.

Put your regulator just after your fuel pump then run the overflow back to your fuel cell. 99+ Corvette works great like others have done. If you put the pump and regulator as close to the fuel cell as possible, that will make plumbing easier. Then run a single line forward to your fuel rail. If you go up and read in the Stickys you will see quite a bit of info. Dorman makes a number of connectors and adapters that will make connecting the FPR pretty simple. You can also get connectors from Russel if you want to spend the money for braided line.

well i didnt win that fuel cell and might be using a stock chevy tank with an intank pump instead for the longevity and less sound of the pump running.
Im not sure what I plan on doing. Im looking into a couple options.
Anyone have any ideas of tanks, I want to use one that isnt all crazy like the camaro tanks, Chevy Astro vans have a rectangular tank but its pretty deep.

Ok so which one is it? Damper or Regulator?
Also would a camaro tank work? with the fuel pump intank and regulator on the top of the tank. I have a buddy who has one sitting around.
This is still the last step in getting the truck going. It has to be done for Aug 1st so any help is still requested.

The camaro tank has a built in regulator that simply t's off the feed line and goes back in the tank through the regulator, it will work just fine..... Who needs a bracket I want a beer!

If you're going to use the Camaro tank with the regulator built in, and run a single line to the engine, you're going to have to change your fuel rail to a newer style returnless. I see in the pics your fuel rail has both a feed and return. I have used this kind in the past by simply running an in tank pump from a TPI car, with a feed line to the engine and a return to the tank. It's really that simple. That truck is still on the road and runs great.

ok i went with a fuel cell and the inline pump Walbro. I got all the stuff and I will be getting it plumbed today/tomorrow matters on the scheduling the wife lays out.
Also YECKER- MY BRACKET MAN.. lol i cant wait!!
I will post up the whole process once its done. I hate the progress and it shows how long I really dragged out the stupid projects..lol I just wish I could take three weeks off work, get paid and have all the parts on hand... DAMN LIFE WOULD BE NICE.

I installed a LS1 from a '98 Z28 into my '53 Chevy pickup. I used an external fuel pump (GM part # 25117086). I only recently finished this project so I have not put a lot of miles on it (< 300). But, so far, it seems to be working just fine. There is a miss in the engine that I am trying to figure out. Other than that, it runs great.
