Default My 72 chevelle build thread

Well I got all the old out and mocked up the new. I am still building the motor but I have a spare block for us to mockup with the CarShop plates and such. I think they will work out well and looks like I might be able to run the truck headers we are taking off my freind's 2000 1500. Well here are the the pics I will update as thinks come along.

Cool, what pan are you going to run and do you have any pics of the crossmember clearance? Were these the standard or one inch setback plates?

Plan is a rebuilt 5.3 TR224 cam, Polish the stock heads, Dual valve springs. Mostly going for a N/A motor for now maybe a little N20 at some point. I just rebuilt the 12 bolt rear with an Eaton Posi, 3.55 Gear (might change to a 4.11) Chromemoly Axles. The trans is a Rock-on 4L65E with a TCI 3000 stall.

Oh and going to keep the Curret "Old School" look not looking for a protourer.

Welcome to the A-Body LS1Tech Team !.. look like your off to a good start on the conversion.

Suggest you also mock up the Front driver side accessories to check the power steering box and also the cross link for pan clearance, make sure you can get full travel without the rod ends hitting the pan.

Looks like the truck heard does kick out the tube a bit outwards as compared to the f-body or swap headers.. (I am using BRP plates and Edelbrock swap headers and have a lot of room).

Can you take a picture of the rear passenger head area.. A/C box and firewall clearance. And also with your mock up of the AC compressor.

Mine swap is done, but I like to see what others are doing and what tyoe of clearance they have with there setup.

Keep them posts come.. and pictures..!

Nice looking ride. I am starting a 69 Chevelle LS1 conversion unless another engine series shows up for the right price.

Well got a little done this weekend I was wanting to have it going by Thanksgiving but don't see that happening with me moving also. I got the mock up stuff out and washed the whole underside of the car with 2 gal of degreaser and the new to me pressure washer I bought. I got the underside undercoated, painted the frame, and transmission. I also took out the stock A/C box since I will not need it for an aftermarket A/C I plan to install next summer. I ordered all the fuel system parts so after I get the engine bay clean and plate for the A/C whole installed I should be ready for the motor to go in. Here are a few pictures.

I am using a pair of modded truck pacesetter headers. The pass. side fit good just had to work on the driver side some.

How much different would this swap be in a 1972 Nova? Aren't they close to the same vehicle?

No.. the Chevelle is a A-Body with Front steer, full frame car. The 3rd gen Nova (68-74) is a X-body which share much of the same subframe as the Camaro/Firebird 1st Gen F-Body (67-69). The X and F body are rear steer subframed car as compared to the A-Body which is a full framed car.

You will have more problem with oil pan clearance with the rear steering X and F Body, but nothing that can not be resolved with a aftermarket pan or notching a OEM pan.

Generally speaking, they both would require the same swap hardware, but you just have the some differnent fittment and header problem to work out.
