The hughes one goes in to the pilot hole in the back of the crank and extends it out. The GM one either bolts between the crank and the flex plate, or on top of the flex plate, depending on which flex plate you have. Two differant methods to do they same job

almost positive you need the gm bolts because of the extra depth the spacer makes. either that or a arp bolt that is the same length, but I dont know those numbers.

On the spacer question, I've used my gm spacer , flex and bolts for about 2 months now, and everything is great.

what trans-some use a .400 spacer bet the crank and flywheel and the flat flywheel, and need long bolts-i have a part # somewhere, or order for a 2004 3500 van w/4l80e
a 350, 400 4l80e, and 700r trans will work with this combo
i think if you have the dished flywheel, and not using a 4l65e, that will work with the hughes spacer bet flywheel & converter, but not 100% sure

I am running the Hughes spacer with a stock flexplate. The guy at Summit was just trying to sell you more parts.

I recently found out that there are two flex plates for LSx motors., A dished version, and a flat version.
Two questions: 1.) What application is the flat version used on, trucks? 2.) If I bolt on the flat version to an LS1 without a spacer, will the flex plate hit the cover plate screws on the back of the block?

I'm considering a special trans adaption where I would need to get the flex plate as close to the block as I can get it without it hitting something.

Thank,
Andy1

the flat flywheel was used with a 4l80e, and a .400 spacer bet flywheel and crank-if you dont use the spacer, not sure what it will hit, but prob wont engage the starter

What vehicle(s) use the 4l80e?
My LS1 is from an '01 Camaro, and it has the dished flexplate.
I can machine a custom starter block if need be. Still wondering whether or not it will not rub on anything?
