IROC Gauge Wiring?
I am researching one of the more common swaps, LS1 into 89 Camaro IROC and I am not seeing a way to retain the stock gauges. My goal is to keep the interior and exterior of the car looking as stock/mild as possible and I think the gauge cluster is one of the points that people look at a lot.
Is there an easy way to adapt the older V8 tach for the LS1 tach signal?
As far as I can tell the rest of the gauges should just be splice and go since they are all electric already, is that correct?
-Thanks

If you use a tuner like HPtuners you can get the speedo and tach to run correctly. We adapted a stock TPI temp sensor to the LS engine and the temp gauge works perfect. You can wire the same oil wire that plugged into the old oil pressure switch right into the LS1 oil pressure switch and it will work fine. The car we just finished has all working factory gauges, factory check engine light, etc. You would not know it isnt stock looking inside.

The only thing that you need to buy which is about $300 is the speedo converter. The LS1 uses a digital signal that goes to the LS1 speedo and for the 82-90 camaro i think only used a cable driven speedo. So you have to get the VSS from the LS1 computer and hook it up to this box. Im still saving up for this part LOL

Just got done doing my ls1 swap. Didn't use a box.. I tuned through HPTuners.. worked great. I say take that 300 that you would of paid for a box..Then 200 more and get hp tuners. Great Investment!

Which table in HP Tuners allows you to skip the Cable-X box for a cable drive speedo?

LOL.....they have us both on the year of the IROC....which year did they start electric speedos? Must be about 90 with the newer cluster. Gonna have to buy the box to spin the stock speedo......or send your cluster out to have it modified into a custom one off electric driven/ cable looking cluster....probably only cost $1500
Good call guys!
