Default T56 Mounting Ear

Can anyone tell me what this ear is for - since this is going into a 66 Nova, any reason I would need it down the road? Thanks. -Bob

It listens to your engine for spark knock...

No, I've never seen it used on a production car. I believe it's their for use on the production line when they assemble these units. If it's in the way you could likely trim it.

I cut it off for my swap, as it does come into contact with the floor board, I know of no reason for it either.. Do worry about it..

Those bumps and projections with holes are for wire harness tie-downs. Also, there are cast-in "protectors" for the reverse switch. We cut all of that stuff off for our swap.
